Lucknow, December 8 Naureen, the one-day-old infant, who was abandoned near a garbage dump in the Punjab Nagar colony in Alambagh locality on Friday, has found a new home.

Israr Ali Khan, a senior clerk in the loco workshop of railways, had come forward to take care of the child.

“As I reached the workshop on Friday, I heard people talking about an infant girl found nearby. I rushed to the spot and saw a woman taking care of the girl. People told me that the girl was found crying at around 5 am. She was not even wearing any clothes. I requested the woman to hand her over to me, which she promptly did. By that time, the police have also reached the spot and with them, I took her to a hospital,” said Khan. After treating the infant at the local hospital, doctors there handed over the girl to Khan.

“Khan has given to us in writing that he has adopted the girl. Legal formalities in this connection will be completed soon,” said S N Singh, Inspector, Alambagh.

“We are three brothers and including my four sons, there are 18 boys in my family. But we all wanted a girl,” said Khan.

Overwhelmed by Naureen’s arrival, Khan’s wife Afsar Jahan said, “Finally, God has heard my prayers. Naureen means ‘Allah ka Noor’ and I always wanted to have a daughter.”
