The 33-year-old Bachchan, along with filmmaker Rohan Sippy and PVR Cinemas Chairman Ajay Bijli, will be part of a panel on Bollywood’s Silver Screen: Pursuit of the Golden Globe at the 13th edition of the Philadelphia event.
Discussion topics will chart the growth of the industry, encompass the retailing of cinema, exploring the changing landscape in film financing and how prolific cinema-making has given way to a quality that is appreciated by a much broader audience, the Forum said in a statement on its website.
Bachchan’s father Amitabh blogged about Abhishek’s Wharton engagement, describing it as a sign of the expanding reach of Indian cinema.
“Did any of us ever dream that a day would come when this would fructify, 60-70 years ago. No we did not. But this is the value that our cinema now enjoys,” the elder Bachchan said on his blog.

Wonder what would this Abhishek Bachan had been doing today, had it not been for his father. Maybe struggling to make both ends meet, just like millions of Indian men of his age doing today.
This makes no sense at all. Abhishek Bachchan does not have sufficient experience. It would make sense if more experienced people from the industry were invited instead. I have not even heard of the other names on the panel!! We need to speak about the economic and financial aspects of the industry. I am not sure this is going to be effective. Another example of blind hero-worship.
Either Wharton has lost its edge or Bachan's have forgotten that acting not Economy is their bread and butter. Wharton should reconsider their decision to be so desperate to have an inexperienced speaker who is an average actor. If it clicks, Abhishek should consider speaking rather than acting.
