Abhishek was stunned to see Amitabh as a 13-year-old in 'Paa'

New Delhi How did Paa happen?

The director Balki one day came to us with the script, which I have not read so far, and told us, ‘I want you to play father and son.’ And I was like, ‘What’s new in this?’ Then he added, ‘I want you to play the father and Amitji to play your son.’ It was an opportunity of a lifetime. All I had to do was be his best friend, which we are in real life. And I enjoyed playing Paa’s Paa.

What was your first reaction when you saw Amitabh Bachchan on the sets with his make-up on?

I didn’t recognise him! My dad and Vidya Balan were shooting near our home and Balki asked me to drop by. I was mingling with the people there and then I asked Balki, ‘Where’s dad?’ And dad called out, ‘Next to you.’ I was stunned at the way he looked and behaved. He had transformed into a 13-year-old.

You sport just one costume in the film.

I was happy since I did not have to change. Coming from a film like Dostana, where all I had to do was change costumes, this was cakewalk. But then Balki took his revenge in a song where he made me wear 17 different costumes.

You play a politician in the film. Did you derive inspiration from someone?

Yes, from two of my good friends, Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot, but only the physicality.

What was the wackiest thing that Amitabh Bachchan did as a kid in the movie?

He got on to my back!

Since Amitabh plays the kid, did you have the liberty to bully him?

I would bully him around whenever we were doing a shot together, but once the director said cut, dad was back to his usual self. And then I had to bear the brunt of bullying him.

Weren’t you afraid of being overshadowed by your father?

Every actor is overshadowed by Mr Bachchan in a film. But then you cannot afford to think that way and be in awe of him. I would not have done so many films with him had I thought that way.

Does Amitabh bring his roles home?

No. Dad never brought any of his roles home. We would have liked it if he had brought a character like Shahenshah home or hung a rope around his shoulder like in Deewar. But in his illustrious career, not once has he brought work home.

As a producer, did you have it easy?

Being a producer is not a happy spot to be in. But then it is not that tough either, because all I do is say ‘Yes’, ‘No’ or ‘I’ll think it over.’

What are your expectations from the film?

I made this film for my dad and, after watching this film, I just want dad to tell me that he is proud of me.

No BAD About SRK by niganta on 16 Jan 2010

Dont write anything bad bout SRK...he is very good actor n nice person. He is funny man its his nature...he try to say he is the best...he insult actors n othrs...but he insult himself also...n make fun with his family also. so pliz dont think bad bout SRK.

its the truth by Himanshu on 09 Nov 2009

i agree with both Jaya and Raj. SRK is full of jealous person of other stars like Big B, Hrithik Roshan, Junior Bachhan... Whatever he shows the good things or trying to be good, is all external. the only good thing in him is, he made his career on his own in bollywood.

hey salman where were you when shahrukh khan said that "I HAVE ACTED REALLY WELL IN MY NAME IS KHAN".. by DEV on 09 Nov 2009

HEY SALMAN(THATS A FAKE NAME BTW, LOL..) WHERE WERE YOU WHEN SHAHRUKH SAID I HAVE ACTED VERY WELL FOR MY NAME IS KHAN.AND THIS IS A RECENT STATEMENT, LIKE 4 DAYS AGO. WHY THE HELL YOU DONT COMMENT WHEN A MUSLIM FORCES HIS VIEWS ON NON MUSLIMS. WE DONT CARE IF AMIR IS MUSLIM, BUT YOU DO CARE THAT AMITABH IS NOT A KHAN. AND YOU UYS JUST WANT TO SUPPRESS NON MUSLIMS IN BOLLYWOOD AND INDIA, AND SO WITH A FIRM SUPPORT OF CONGRESS, WHO FILE CASES AGAINST BACHCHANS AND AKSHAY KUMAR DELIBERATELT TO SABOTAGE THEIR IMAGR. BUT YOU FORGET ONE THING, YOU CANT FORCE PEOPLE, BECAUSE AMITABHS ART IS SO GREAT THAT IT CANNOT BE MATCHED BY ANY KHAN OR NON KHAN, EXCEPT ABHISHEK..AND PEOPLE KNOW "RUSHTEY TO AMITABH SAB KE BAAP HOTE HAI, NAAM HAI SHAHENSHAH".. AMITABH BACHCHAN IS GREATER THAN "AMIR KHAN AJAY DEVGAN SHARUKH KHAN DILIP KUMAR .....EVERY OTHER ACTOR "..SO SHUT UP YOUR RELIGIOUS GAME..DONT BRING RELIGIOUS PREJUDICES IN ART. ART IS ABOVE RELIGION, ALL RELIGIONS. ESPECIALLY ABOVE ALLAH.NO OFFENCE

Bachchans are the best!! by Alisha on 09 Nov 2009

I find all the Khans silly! they're so hypocrytic! Just fight among themselves like kids for publicity and act as if they hate the media They're so immature!! The Bachchans are diamonds in Bollywood!! What a family, what a parampara, tradition, respect, values!! Every person in the family i.e., Amitabh, Aishwarya, Abhishek, and Jaya have their own identity and individuality!! They're the best, they're my idols!! Long Live the Bachchans!! and somebody please put an end to the Khans!

sorry by jaya singh on 08 Nov 2009

i don't know what force you to give such comment. I think you are jealous of yourself. The only person who talk about himself in bollywood is SRK

You rock by raj on 08 Nov 2009

ya jaya i completely agree with u.. it is srk who praises himself, tells that he is the biggest brand....his days are over..it's all over for srk..thank god his horrible acting and his overacting came to an end
