New Delhi, February 1: Atiq Ahmed, a Lok Sabha member from Phoolpur in Allahabad, who was evading arrest for the past six months in a murder case of an MLA in Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the Delhi police in the national capital.

Ahmed, an expelled Samajwadi Party MP, was arrested by special cell of Delhi police on Thursday evening from an apartment in Preetampura in west Delhi, a senior police official said on Friday.

He was on the run after his name cropped up in the sensational murder case of Raju Pal, a BSP MLA in UP. He was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000.

The Uttar Pradesh police has secured a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with the Raju Pal murder case.

Ahmed had alleged that there was threat to his life from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and it was for this reason that he was not surrendering to the state police.

Earlier, Mayawati had accused Congress leaders of conspiring to eliminate her and claimed that they were "patronising" Ahmed whom she dubbed as "mafia".

A number of cases including that of murder, attempt to murder and kidnapping were registered against him.
