With the Sixth Pay Commissions increasing the salaries of the armed forces every 10 years, the gap between the pensions received by those who retired before the implementation of the respective commissions has widened and it will amplify more in the coming decades.
Similarly placed retired officers (with same ranks and number of years of service) are receiving different pensions, a system vehemently opposed by lakhs of ex-servicemen across the country. Incidentally, in a judgment in July 1987, the Supreme Court ruled: “All judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts will get the same pension as their successors get any time in the future.” What is interesting is that it is not only judges but also MPs and MLAs who enjoy the privilege of ‘one rank, one pension’ policy.
Will someone do anything about it, I have my reservations. It is strange that the President requires three times more pay for her cosmetics and her expenses including food, clothes and house. Well this is what we call ‘democracy’.
Corrupt politicians of the likes of Lalu Prasads are given ministerial berths, who have whisked away Rs 1,000 crore but no action is taken against them. From collector right up to the peon level, everyone is neck deep into corruption. Instances like Satyam bring bad name to the country.
Human factors involved in retiring soldiers at an age when they are not young enough to pick up the threads of an entirely a new profession or old enough to sit idle at home on meagre pension should be studied and resolved. Soldiers can be given some land under ceiling in cities or along the borders to bolster security. If land can be given to multinationals and politicians, it could also be given to those who have given their lives in the name of their country.
When the service class retires, they get busy in making their both ends meet and waste their hard earned pensions and gratuity on ventures just to get cheated by shrewd businessmen.

1.As per budget speech of Fin Min, the OROP is approved for few ex-men. All Officers are debarred. It is shame for govt. for such action. The debarred def pensioners wish to know:a.Are the debarred pensioners are not the ex-men, did they not serve the nation?b.Did they when in service not fight and many of them give their lives while fighting against external and internal enemies, whose families and children suffered/still suffering till date?c.Could the def pensioners served or fought the wars without officers/can it be ever possible in future?d.Have the def pensioners not served the nation like other soldiers for whom OROP has been approved?e.Were the deprived def pensioners not sincere, honest, loyal, faithful, obedient, dutiful, submissive, docile, tractable, and disciplined soldiers while they were in service of their beloved country? f.Did the deprived def pensioners not give their prime youth and some of them their lives in service of the nation when they were in service?
Keeping in view of the services rendered by the soldiers one rank one pension should be implemented by the Govt. It is jeopardize that the successors are getting more pension than their ancestors. At least the ancestors should get even equivalent pension to their successors
FROM PRESIDENT DOWN TO MINISTERS, MPS, MLA'S AND A HUGENUMBER OF CABINET RANK FUNCTIONARIES AT THE CENTRE AND STATES ARE ENJOYING UNLIMITED PECUNIARY BENEFITS AND PERKSWHICH OUR ECONOMY CAN ILL AFFORD. TO TOP IT ALL, THERE IS CORRUPTION OF MONUMENTAL PROPORTIONS BY THE POLITICIANS BUT NO ACTION IS TAKEN AGAINST THEM. EVERYTHING THEY DO GETS JUSTIFIED. JUDICIARY OF LATE SEEMS TO HAVE ABANDONED THE RIGHTEOUS PATH THAT IT WAS FOLLOWING FOR SOME TIME. THOUSANDS OF CRORES EMBEZZELLED, THOUSANDS SPENT ON STATUES SC TURNS A BLIND EYE. SERVING SOLDIERS AND VETERANS MAY CRY FROM HOUSE TOPS FOR OROP NO ONE WILL LISTEN FOR A DEMAND WHICH INVOLVES A FRACTION OFTHE DELUGE OF WANTON EXPENDITURE AND WASTE INDULDGED IN BY OUR DEMOCRATIC RULERS.
