Advani backer Bhagwat is new RSS Chief, Joshi new GS

Mohan Bhagwat

New Delhi The new order took over in the Sangh Parivar with Mohan Rao Bhagwat being appointed as the Sarsanghchalak of the RSS and Suresh Joshi pipping Suresh Soni as Sahkaryavahak or general secretary of RSS.

The change was ushered in today at Nagpur after RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan decided to go into retirement, Suresh Joshi aka Bhaiya Joshi was elected as General Secretary of RSS after pipping joint general secretary Suresh Soni to the post.

The retirement of 78 year old Sudershan and Bhagwat taking over the Sangh reins is expected to have a telling effect on the BJP also. While Sudershan and Soni were seen to be against BJP Prime Ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, Bhagwat is a supporter of Advani. In fact, Advani was an apprentice under Bhagwat's father when he was a Pracharak in Gujarat after crossing over from Pakistan after parition.

Bhagwat's taking over means that Advani's clout in the Sangh Parivar will increase significantly with his baiters taking a back seat. The obvious ramfication of this will be that all the saffron units will now go all out in support of the BJP in the coming elections with Bhagwat's word counting above Suresh Soni, the chief backer of Rajnath Singh, BJP President.

To put it in context, it was Sudershan who went out in the public desiring that Advani should hang his boots after the 2004 elections. Even in the present context, it was Suresh Soni's support for Rajnath that the stalemate between Arun Jaitely and party president's friend Sudanshu Mittal continues.

The need and importance of RSS by Sumant on 05 Aug 2009

I strongly oppose what the previous comment says about RSS, Bajrang Dal and similar organizations. In fact, it is due to these organizations that India is still intact and she stands as a proud, independent, democratic, republic, 'secular' and progressive and respected country.

BAN IT WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT by Gopal on 31 Mar 2009

This Sangh Parivar is anti-National. Ban it with immediate effect.

RSS on path of Glory by Bharat Kumar Sharma on 22 Mar 2009

I wish the new leadership at RSS all the best for taking the Patriotic movement and its loyal citizens forward on a path of glory. A few suggestions would include 1) Promote the ideals and concepts of RSS to Indias youth from premier institutes to the government run schools all across the nation. They can be good pillars of support. 2) Bring people of IMMACULATE backgrounds to leade different chapters, departments and unit heads. Indian Army , civil services , learned scientists , etc will help add to the body of knowledge and better administration. 3) Nationwide popular activities , including rewarding cricketers and Hindi films that promote Indian and Hindu culture without any pandering for minorities.4) Fun programs and festival events in primary school children will help grassroots liking of the organisation. 5) Institute rewards that bring nationalism , Hindu pride, promotion of Hindi etc a cause for celebration. God be with India.

Mohan Bhagwat id new RSS Chief by Vinod Tuli on 22 Mar 2009

Apropos 'Advani backer Bhagwat is new RSS Chief, Joshi new GS', datelined 21st march 2009, the report appears to be biased. Veteran reporter might have known that RSS Chiefs ever since Mr Golwalkar have never been pro/anti any individual in all its affiliated units. They are said to have acted with independent thinking without any pressure or misgivings. All the Heads so far have been great thinkers and so are highly educated and a well versed personality Mr Mohan Bhagwat as per known facts. To ascribe any insinuation to him may be read with a pinch of salt.

Why is the English press biased? by Hiranmayi Shukla on 22 Mar 2009

It is a matter of mystery why the English pres dislikes RSS , or for that matter, anything which is pure Indian and not tainted by western influence. Is it that these convent educated fellows find tht there is nothing more basically national than merely clapping at an Italian lady, foisted on Indians by sheer circumstances?

BAGWAT by B S GANESH on 22 Mar 2009

CONGRATULATIONS TO SRI BHAGWAT. YOU HAVE A HARD TASK TO PROTECT HINDUS AS IT IS SEEN DUE TO GREED FOR POWER AND MONEY, MANY HINDUS ARE WORKIMNG AS TRAITORS IN OUR COUNTRY. HINDUISM IS MOST SECULAR AS IT PROMOTES SURVIVAL OF ALL RELIGIONS BY PRACTICE " SARVE JANAHA SUKHINO BHAVANTHU ". THIS IS WHY MANY OUTSIDERS FLOODED THE COUNTRY AND ARE HARMING US.B S Ganesh, ganshar@dataone.in

Bhgavatji is our new Sarsanghchalak by Harish Dhruv on 22 Mar 2009

It is with immense pleasure; we welcome the news of Mananiya Bhagavatji’s election as Sarsanghchalak of RSS. The comments, on groups within RSS, in this article are totally baseless, and mischievous. It is design to hurt inner core and feelings of all the millions of swayamsevaks, and good people of Bharat.Harish Dhruv Los Angeles,USA

Dr. Mohan Rao Bhagawat by arun on 22 Mar 2009

I would like to express my anger against the heading of this news Item i.e., Adani backer...... indian express should stop giving the baised view of some one obviously with vested interest.. and report news without interpretations. I have observed that any news about RSS in Indian express is baised and twisted to suit someone's interest. RSS is a great organisation and general public who loves this nation without any selfish motives sees RSS as the only organisation which could propel this great country to its param vibhav position....the concept of ram rajya...

Sarsanghchalak- RSS by Arun on 22 Mar 2009

I wish Dr. Mohan Rao Bhagawat all the best wishes to take this great organisation to even greater heights. I am sure all the swayamsevaks across the globe will stand up with me to give this great leader a full hearted pranam. Bharat Mata Ki Jai

New Boss of RSS! by Nyayman on 12 Aug 2009

I fully agree with you.The very fact that he has reined in Advani by:1.asking him to quit at the earliest; and2.He has ordered Advani not to go on yatra alone but also take BJPPresident.Prove that he values ideals as more important than personalities.

sangh by sunil on 21 Mar 2009

lets pray for him and for the nation also.connecting his present appointment with current politics....too childish .

New Sarsanghchalak of the RSS by Bichu Muttathara on 21 Mar 2009

The elevation of Shri Mohan Rao Bhagwat as the Sarsanghchalak of the RSS will hardly matter for the country as more rabid elements have hijacked the Hindutwa agenda from the firebrand organisations like RSS VHP etc. Today the fringe organisations like Sri Ram Sene et al are calling the shots. With all the minus points the RSS and the VHP were respectable religious organisations till the BJP had used them to pull the Ayodhya chestnuts out of the fire. These organisations were acting as a counter force against the tantrums of those minuscule elements who were suffering from minority syndrome. Today, over-politicisatiion of these religious organisations has reduced them to the roles of playing second fiddle and third fiddle. There so many people like Purohit who are disenchanted with the moderate views of the Sangh Parivar. The biggest challenge, therefore, before the new Sarsanghchalak of the RSS will be to cater to the undemocratic and un-secular viewpoints of the hardliners.

Jai Maharashtra by Pradeep Goswami on 21 Mar 2009

Two marathi manoos at the top of RSS at a time when demand for prime minister from Maharashtra has also been made. A day will come when RSS is to re-named as MSS ( Marathi swayamSevaks). Long live new Peshwa Raj!

RSS by Dr Anand Arya on 21 Mar 2009

I feel pity on your correspondant Shishir Gupta's commentry about the change in leadership of Sangh. First he need to learn the terminology used in the sangh. It is 'Sarkaryawaah' not 'sahkarywahak'. Secondly, who so ever attains any position in the sangh, it is because of that person's personal sacrifice for the motherland. Sangh works as a family where one member is only happy seeing other progressing, not otherwise. Using the description like 'Joshi piping Soni' only shows his utter ignorance and shallow knowledge about the working of the Sangh.

congress and BJP should remain strong for a better India by raj on 21 Mar 2009

Thank God. I wish congress and BJP should remain strong for a better India. I pray that Advani becoming moderate with Liberal Bhagwat is reassuring for everyone. This election is crucial for future of India. Any wrong step by a reckless PM or corrupt players like NCP ( All pune, shirdi, satara real residential land is owned by them ?) will be a bad omen.

The essential ingredient required for the BJP to form the Govt is not defeating Cong or the Third Front but defeating enemies within.Rajasthan was lost by the BJP rather than won by the Cong.Similarly if the internal strife
