Advani to quit after new party president takes over: RSS

New Delhi Setting aside reports that Leader of Opposition L K Advani might exit from politics on his birthday on Sunday, RSS has said the senior BJP leader would step down only after overseeing the taking over of a new party president early next year.

"The present BJP president completes his term in December. By the time the formalities for taking over by a new president are completed it would be January end. Once that is done, Advani will step down as was decided earlier," revealed RSS leader Ram Madhav.

Earlier, there were reports that Advani might quit politics on his birthday.

The RSS leadership had asked Advani to choose his successor as well as ensure a smooth change of leadership after party president Rajnath Singh completes his term in December.

A BJP leader echoed similar sentiments, saying Advani is not stepping down now but there is a possibility of him quitting once a new president is chosen.

This would mean Advani, who turns 82 on Sunday, may give up the post of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha in February-March 2010, party sources said.

"However, the issue has not been discussed afresh. These decisions were taken last month when a series of meetings were held between the RSS chief (Mohan Bhagwat) and BJP leadership," Madhav said.

Meanwhile, Bhagwat said in an interview to a news channel that he was told by BJP leaders that the party's new president will be from outside Delhi.

Bhagwat said the names of senior leaders Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, M Venkaiah Naidu and Ananth Kumar for the top post have been ruled out.

RSS and BJP top brass have reportedly agreed that the new party president would be somebody with a Sangh background, not more than 60 years of age, dynamic and capable of taking along all sections of the party and the Sangh.

The process of choosing a new BJP president has already begun. Sources said names were likely to be finalised by the end of November and a consensus reached on the next incumbent by December end.

Rajnath Singh is likely to relinquish office sometime in January, though officially his term would come to an end on December 31.

With the four senior leaders from Delhi being ruled out for the top post, sources said Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj succeeding Advani would be a "logical move".

Arun Jaitley has already been appointed as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. However, Rajnath Singh's role after he completes his term as party president is yet to be decided.

Bankruptcy in Leadership by R.C.Mohan on 08 Nov 2009

Finally bankruptcy has plagued BJP too. It is quite natural. These elder leaders in BJP had been in their glory when they were in power whether in centre or in states. They never wanted to groom their successors or spend time to search for talents from open public. In politics, no one is invited or offered a post or position. Like in a packed unreserved railway compartment, the passengers inside the compartment would close the door so that no new passenger should get in. In spite of that, some may squeeze into it through the open window. The state of ambitious and talented political aspirants is this from the time democracy has been in existence in India. Hence, talented, service minded and selfeless candidates shy away from even peeping into this area. A clear brain drain is what we suffer in politics. How many educated young leaders are now available in politics unless they are not sponsored by their parents or godfathers? Do we have no talented candidate in India at all?

We all must improve our moral standards to deserve such a leader.

Mody is a hero of bigoted Hindus by Village Boy on 08 Nov 2009

Only in a backward country like India a person responsible for murder of so many is considered as a hero by so many. In a civilized country he would be prosecuted in the court of law. Man is still a suspected criminal, even if he is responsible for some good deeds in Gujrat. Only in the eyes of pea-brained sanghis, murders are excusable by some imaginary or real 'development'

Who cares... by Roy on 08 Nov 2009

a damn whether the LOW purush or the best administrator the BJP has ever had becomes the party head. As long as the sect plays the divide game...me Hindu & you an infidel...the ilk like the extreme right wing will disappear from the Indian politics. Whatever their supporters may think...passing phase or just a blip...you're history as far the Indian electrote is concerned. Did anyone care to compare the extreme Hindu right wing with the Islamic radicals...perhaps they may be different in the eyes of the intellectual by name Rajesh who has commented on here.

Instead of wasting so many days Yeddyurappa could have resigned gracefully in the beginning of the crisis and saved his honour.

If there law and order really functioned in our country then Advani would have long gone would have been convicted in cases regarding the demolition of Babri, his presumed role in Hawala, his role in, as revealed by Jaswant Singh, cash in parliament and for his alleged association with the most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.Because of Advani and his chums, we Hindus lost our reputation all around the world. He should be deported to the country of his birth.

Poor dear Advani, with all his Rath Yathra and horse trading he could not get the Ram or BJP crown.Time for BJP to be a force in Indian politics to bring new and fresh young blood.Time for Advani to take Ayoda binwas and wash his dirty hands with secular or Ganga waters."Old man make wars and youth paid for it," Jai Ram Advaniji.

God save the country from fools by Rajesh on 07 Nov 2009

What else can i say when i see educated people getting fooled by the ideological wave and seemingly logical arguements presented by media (most of them unintelligent people; else they would have got admissions in a more competitive field of study) and a handful of sponsored intellectuals out to protect there turf of the last 60 years since indpendence; the so-called secular brigade. The matrix runs so deep and people are unaware of the spell of the matrix. God save this country. Give some capacity of analysis and conclussion to these self-styled intellectuals and let them see the reality. This nation has sufferred for thousands of years. How much more will it suffer?

So transparent... by Roy on 08 Nov 2009

Surely you're not the IIM class of 2009...for the matter ever been...lets not ask questions MR Rajesh...your intellect deems all others as inane & mundane people whilst projecting yourself as someone with answers. But then...why are are answering a question you yourself put forth with a question the rest of your country cousins....the rustic yokels. You can do nothing but project your view on here....the country runs smoothly with the brain or brawn of the elected few. So there

Shame: The buthcer of Gujarath is MODI by India belongs to Backwards and Dalits, minorities on 07 Nov 2009

MODI COULD NOT KEEP HIS WIFE UNDER HIS ROOF HOW CAN HE KEEP SO MANY PEOPLE UNITED? MODI WAS INVOLVED IN RAPES, KILLINGS AND MURDERS.

non reserved categories have no place? by observer on 08 Nov 2009

Mr " India belongs to the backwards, Dalits and minorities". If anyone is really from India it is the Dalits who are the aborigines of India and none else. All others, like the Backwards (OBCs) and the minorities have entered India as invaders at some point of time. Period! Only the Dalits ideally should dominate in India.

Buthcer of muslims by kumarpushp on 07 Nov 2009

Modi is a OBCs who is being used against the muslims and dalits.Advani was used and thrown by RSS and Now modi will be thrown in dust bin in coming year.dalits and muslims should write to world leader that buthcer of minorities should not be allowed any part of world.

He may be a nero for few, but god to many by Lohit on 07 Nov 2009

Modi represents the gem of Bharathiyas, He has come up from being no one to a CM and won hearts of crores of people. If few betrayer hearts are shed of blood, it doesn't matter for better of nation. Dalits will be dalits always if they want to be that always, well these people have become so dependent on Reservations that they do not want to come out of dalit label. I may be labeled OBC to divide Hindus but i reject it, for i know division is not from birth but by personal attitude and growth. MODI can now be considered a BHRAHMANA now, its not his birth its his work which makes him BHRAHMANA. Kumarpushp u should know Advani has done what he was supposed to do, he is no more a person capable of doing the same things he has done in past, so he must and will go. If modi continues to do work like he is doing he will be there, if he is not capable he will make way for a better and much capable person. At present Modi is at best, so he is for next 12 years after that only his health can decide. You should better start assess who is good and who is bad, there is no better organization than RSS in India which can save Hindus.
