Chandigarh, March 10 The SHO of Panipat’s Model Town area filed an affidavit in the Punjab & Haryana High Court today seeking permission to initiate investigations against Satbir Singh Kadian.

Kadian, former speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha, was allegedly involved with others in a case of dacoity and land dispute. The case ultimately lost relevance as the landowner was murdered.

The SHO submitted the affidavit after the government of Haryana filed an application demanding further investigation against Kadian and others. Taking note of the application filed by Haryana State highlighting the shoddy investigation done by the Haryana Police, thereby letting off various accused in the murder case, the Punjab & Haryana High Court had issued notices to the accused.

Joginder Kaur, the owner of the said land, was murdered in 2001 in the chamber of an advocate in the Panipat court premises. Five persons were booked on the charges of murder and held guilty by the trial court. The convicts moved the Punjab & Haryana High Court seeking acquittal. It was during the arguments of their appeals, that the alleged involvement of Kadian was raised in the court.

One of the witnesses had deposed in the court that the deceased, while being taken to the hospital, had told him that she had seen the assailant at the residence of Kadian. A case on the charges of dacoity and under the Arms Act was also registered in Police Station, Model Town in Panipat.

Advocate Vinod Ghai, representing the accused, contended that the act of the Haryana Government was surprising but the counsel representing the Haryana government demanded time for arguing the application.
