Kolkata, January 9 After the locals of Park Circus, it was the turn of students and teachers to protest against the venue of the book fair. The principals of Don Bosco, Park Circus, Tiny Tots and Mahadevi Birla Girls High School met Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya on Wednesday evening and requested him to shift the venue of the 33rd Kolkata Book fair.

“We have received letters from the Book and Publishers Guild. They have asked us to reschedule the timings of our school, which is practically impossible,” said Malini Bhagat, principal of Mahadevi Birla Girls High School.

“We have requested them to change the timings of the schools and colleges to avoid the rush and traffic jam,” said Tridib Chatterjee, secretary of Guild.

The rescheduling of the school timings have been requested keeping in mind the peak timings of the fair, he added. “It is not possible for us to change the school hours as per the Guild’s schedule. But it seems that all our pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” added Bhagat.

Principal of Lady Brabourne College Sanghamitra Mukherjee appealed to the Chief Secretary of higher education department Ashok Mohon Chakraborty to look into the matter.

“Park Circus maidan is the best alternative to the Maidan. So, we had permitted the Guild to hold the fair,” said the mayor.
