Mumbai The Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt starrer remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 'Agneepath' has broken all records at the box office on the first day of its release, according to trade pundits.

The Karan Johar-produced film 'Agneepath' collected Rs 23 crores on the opening day January 26, breaking the previous-set record of the first day collection of Salman

Khan's 'Bodyguard', which stood at approximately Rs 21 crores.

The 1990 cult classic 'Agneepath', directed by Mukul Anand, starred Amitabh Bachchan playing the iconic character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, while Danny Denzongpa played Kancha Cheena, the baddie.

Mithun Chakraborty also played a memorable role in the film produced by Yash Johar. Even though Bachchan's performance was praised by all, the film had failed

commercially at the box-office.

Johar's version of 'Agneepath', starring Hrithik as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan and Sanjay as Kancha has created quite a buzz, collecting around Rs 23 crores on day one and making the best out of the Republic Day holiday.

"The film collected approximately Rs 23 crores on the opening day. It is a huge opening. Today's figures are expected to be somewhere between Rs 15 to 18 crores. Since it is a working day, the figures are a little low as compared to day one.

"But looking at the response, it is expected that the film will make Rs 75 crores in the coming four days," trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.

"The film is also doing well in the overseas market. 'Agneepath' opened with 2,700 prints with 95-100 per cent occupancy," he said.

"The film has received a tremendous opening. The film is running in 125 screens with five shows per screen on an average," Sunil Punjabi, CEO of Cinemax India, said.

According to reports, the total investment of 'Agneepath' is approximately Rs 75 crores. The satellite rights of the film were sold for about Rs 35 crores, audio rights for around Rs 9 crores and overseas and home video rights for nearly Rs

12 crores.
