Mumbai/New Delhi The Mangalore-bound Air India aircraft, with 172 passengers and six crew onboard, was damaged on Tuesday when the plane prepared to taxi at the Mumbai airport with the aero-bridge attached, damaging the plane's door but no one was injured.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a probe into the incident and two Air India pilots have been grounded and an aircraft maintenance engineer was taken off it following the damage to the door, DGCA chief S N A Zaidi said in New Delhi.

Air India also de-rostered one technician and suspended one push-back tractor operator involved in the incident, an Air India statement issued in Mumbai said.

"The aircraft was pushed back while it was attached to the aerobridge," he said.

All passengers are safe, Air India spokesperson said in Mumbai. They were shifted to another aircraft and the flight took off at 12.20 pm, delayed by about 80 minutes.

SAFETY AIR INDIA STYLE by ram on 06 May 2009

Arebthere NO SOPS before the aircraft taxies? All involved should be sacked to prevent further recurrences of such or any aircraft SAFETY related issues GAMBLING the lives of PASSENGERS - NO COMPROMISE ISSUES.I for one would never fly Air India and have not for a long time - definitely looks like worse than low cost carriers.Another Test for Indian Aircrafts/Airports Safety Standards.NEXT WHAT?

AIR INDIA by Shadi Katyal on 05 May 2009

With the larges number of employees per plane why should anyone care what happens. Eveyone thinks it is not my duty.Did the pilots noticed the drag factor on the plane. Offcourse ground employees must have left and thus didnot know that plane was still attached to walkway. What kind of people we do train and employ but it is India and we say CHALTA HAI BHAIFew days ago we had plane where pilots fell asleep and we never heard if any cation was taken.

Scrap Air India and save the image and money for India by Jay on 05 May 2009

Such good-ups are not so uncommon for Air-India. Air India need to be scrapped to save the image and money for India. At least no tax payers' money be injected into this highly inefficient, corrupt and (mostly) loss making business venture run by Indian Govt.

Life will go on by Gaga Gamer on 05 May 2009

This is life. There are always mistakes. "To err is human". In many cases the results are minor and in some cases they could be disastrous. Nothing can be done. Karma. We just have to grin and bear it and hope for the least damage (rather than maximum benefit). Sacking the pilots will not help as there is no assurance that the new pilots will NOT make mistakes. NOBODY IS SECURE. Security is a myth and a dream always.

Dangerous. by BM on 05 May 2009

sub-standard pilots and technicians by EDDY on 05 May 2009

There is a protocol that has to be gone through before the aircraft can be pushed back. These pilots should be sacked, otherwise they will make serious errors in the air.
