New Delhi, August 28: Air India has suspended a total of nine air hostesses who reported sick during the past few days to protest alleged disparities in their pay-scales and other issues.

While a total of nine airhostesses were suspended, no airhostess reported sick on Thursday, an airline spokesperson said.

He said that the suspensions came after the airline's doctors conducted medical checks and found that none of them were actually sick. He also maintained that these hostesses were not supported by the concerned unions.

A section of airhostesses had resorted to this kind of action to protest what they called ‘glaring disparity’ in pay-scales between seniors and juniors.

They have also been protesting the de-rostering of over-weight hostesses from flight duties, an airhostess said on grounds of anonymity.
