Kuala Lumpur Action can be taken against non-Muslim publications in 10 Malaysian states if they use four words related to Islam, including ‘Allah’.

Religious Adviser to the Premier Abdullah Md Zin said said in the early days, the word Allah already existed but it was wrongly used and was taken in the wrong context.

The Catholic Church had submitted an application for a judicial review over the use of the word Allah, seeking to quash the decision which imposed conditions on the publishing permit of ‘The Herald’, a Catholic weekly.

He added that people in that era claimed Allah had children, that angels were his daughters and Allah had associations with the many statues used for worshiping.

"That is why Allah directed Prophet Muhammad to clear the matter and declare that Allah is One, has no children, was not given birth to and cannot be associated and likened to other things, or objects, in this world.”

"That is why the word Allah cannot be used by non-Muslims to describe their God," the adviser was quoted as saying by the ‘Star’ newspaper on Thursday.

The Malaysian states of Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis and Selangor have gazetted the ruling which is now part of the respective state enactments on Islamic matters.

A 'fatwa' had been issued to prohibit non-Muslim publications from using the words ‘Allah’, ‘Kaabah’, ‘Solat’ and ‘Baitullah’ in their reading materials.

The remaining four states - Penang, Federal Territory, Sabah and Sarawak were in the process of gazetting the fatwa, the ‘Star’ newspaper reported.

Recently, a leader of the Opposition Islamic PAS party said non-Muslims were allowed to use the word ‘Allah’ as there was a verse in the Quran which quoted the non-Muslims of Mecca calling their god by that name.

Muslim monopoly for Allah by Ashok on 06 Mar 2009

True, non-Muslims shouldn't use 'Allah' because Muslims, believers in the 'religion of peace' 'use' Allah for such Satanic activities as terrorism. No non-Muslims, as it is, likes to use Allah word and why should they?Muslims are Benjamin Button -- travelling in reverse to reach 7th Century.

Crazy People by Brahm Gaur on 06 Mar 2009

It is the biggest joke I ever heard, imagine if the Christian say that "God" should only be used by Christians, and “Bhagwan” can only be used by Hindus. Anyone else using it will be subject to life sentence. Grow up guys. Please do not make the world any worse than what it is now. I hope you think about it.

'Allah' cannot be used by non-Muslims: Malaysia by Narayanamangalam S on 06 Mar 2009

I wonder if non-muslims have any interest in using these terms related to Islam, expect to communicate their view points. I sense that non-muslims do not want to deal with muslims or Islam more than necessary for their daily business or social lives. In fact they would definitely avoid muslims as much as possible. I also do not know if the Malaysian minister would impose restrictions on muslims or muslim publications not to use words related to other religions or civilizations. Or perhaps he feels muslims can do whatever they want - the way in which muslims enter every civilized country legally, ilklegally and posing as refugees and proliferate at a divine speed.

ON BANNING OF ALLAH NAME IN MALASYIA. by hariharakrishnan on 06 Mar 2009

Dear Editor,It clearly shows the INTOLERANCE LIMIT of Islamic practices. If you take India's Sanathana Dharma(Hinduism), people are crticising day-in and day-out has not just bothered to complain. This shows the Tolerance level of Sanathana dharma.I do not know when the whole Islamist's are going to come out of this hibernation when we are almost entering a highly scientific world. Relegion should be personal. More people have died in Religeous wars fought by ISLAM and CHRISTIANITY. When will the followers of these faiths will take clues from Oldest of Faiths viz. Sanathana Dharma.Hope , time will answer the prayers.

This is really bizzare to hear about this new FATWA.......and I am sure Malyasian Govt. has not filed and recieved the patent on saying "ALLAH" by others....Are we moving to the dark age or what? People are DISREPECTING the value and High respect of "ALLAH" by imposing this kind of FATWA...........must be condemned by all societies.....GOD IS ONLY one...only the name is different but all teaches the same thing on MORALITY, LOVE, RESPECT AND TRUST.....

"Malaysia and religious fundamentalism" by Rudolph.A.Furtado on 06 Mar 2009

Had visited Penang,Kuala Lumpur,Melaka and Singapore in 2007 and was absolutely impressed by the Malaysian Governments tolerance of secularism in their "Islamic Republic".Malaysia according to me was a role model for other Islamic nations in showing the way towards economic progress and living standards and shunning "Islamic Fundamentalism" that in 2009 is engulfing the World, agreater threat than Adolf Hitler and World War-3.This sudden introduction of "Religious terminolgy cesorship" in literature by the Malaysian Government seems strange and totally out of context with a country marching towards First World status like its neighbour,Singapore.I have absolutely wonderful memories of my holidays in Malaysia and Singapore and hope religious fundamentalism doesn't engulf these beautiful country's.

Allah by Mahan on 06 Mar 2009

What about the songs that have the word Allah? Can it be sung by a non-muslim or only a muslim has the right to write and sing? The Quranic verse says Allah is Rab (god) al Aalameen (of the universe)not Rab al Musleemeen (God of Muslims). Allah, oops God give these fanatics some sense.

Malaysian Govt. by Vasudevan Nair on 06 Mar 2009

Are they nuts? by AZAD on 05 Mar 2009

Not very smart, Malaysia. Whatever happened to you? Where are you headed? Your people are smart, friendly and open, what happened to your traditions of tolerance and freedom?

Definition of a Muslim by Hazeem on 05 Mar 2009

Before declaring such laws, Malaysia should define who a Muslim is. This may be a ploy by some to marginalize and persecute some of the Muslims that they think in their perception is NOT muslim. This has worked greatly in Pakistan and other Muslim Countries. If Malaysia wants to be like Pakistan then they could go ahead with this fatwa and I am sure they will be another failed state state very soon.

exclusivism by Suresh Iyer on 05 Mar 2009

Such lunatic ideas exist elswhere too.In the middle east countries i have seen shopping malls selling quran in their book sections. The holy book is kept in glass cages, with an advise to non muslims not to touch it.I think the whole idea is exclusivism and they think Allah( sorry for having to use it one more time) will be pleased by this .

Allah is the name for God given by one section of the world population while others call Him by other names. But God is one and indivisible. Man cannot regulate who uses a particular name for Him by S.Balakrishnan on 05 Mar 2009

MAHATMA Gandhi used Allah as another name of Ram. In our sacred Ram Dun we say "Iswar Allah there nam". Indians everywhere will sing Ram Dun and MALAYSIA may pass any legislation it wants but the sacred hymn we sing showing that the lord is the same what ever name we give to Him.

Allah by S.Krishnamurthy on 05 Mar 2009

Non-Muslims should not use the word "Allah"! OK. what about the Muslims using the words of other religions? May be non-Muslims should not grow beards and non-Muslims should not have contact with Muslims! Where all these rubbish will stop?

Use of Allah by Sandeep on 05 Mar 2009

I think Malaysian muslims need to learn Arabic as Allah is an Arabic word meaning God. So if a Hindu or a Christian want to say God in Arabic, how will they say it? Its like the English

Not again by Puneet on 05 Mar 2009

oh no. Not again. Thinking good about other religion? Religious people have no idea about thinking good. this clingy and protectionist mentality is resulting in end of an era which could have been dominated with logic, reason and sense.I am sure Allah or Ram or Jesus or any Guru will not come to save this earth, when we ourselves are bent upon destroying ourselves.

'Allah' cannot be used by non-Muslims: Malaysia by James on 05 Mar 2009

After all these years of pampering the radicals what can we expect from them !They want to live in a different world than ours and when this will collide will bring lot of devastation. It is hard to isolate them and harder to expect them to be one with rest. Islamic redaclisation is major cause of unrest almost everywhere.

Fanaticism beyond imagination by romesh.sharma on 05 Mar 2009

Couple of times before I did mention about Malayisan Law-makers who are working with and in the interest of most fanatic Islamic clerics.Malayian Govt is no better than Pakistani Talibanism with different and refined methods to suppress and defame other religiona dn people with other faith. Moreover its one of major supporter of terrorism through finances and moral help.Malaysia is directly responsible for insurgency and terror in Phillipines,Thailand and combodia as well.Their aim is to spread Islam in that whole region.Malaysian most deceptive muslims propagating Malaysia Truely Asia,Democracy and tolerence is malign act of cheating/fooling the rest of the world.Non-muslims are treated like second class(even as animals)people and not citizens.Though this Fatwa and the intentions behind sound ridiculous but that speaks the truth of their attitude and mentality which is too fanatical and intolerant,in other words inhumane.
