The incident took place on June 7. For over four hours, five female students of JU had a harrowing time as the police and local CPM cadres searched their rented accommodation in Palbazar alleging that the girls have links with the Maoists. The police also claimed that they had found some “incriminating documents” from their house.

Senior RSP leader and state PWD minister Kshiti Goswami said: “The police are doing whatever they want in this state. This is nothing new, but the high handedness of the police is going on for a long time. The state government has failed to keep a tight rein on the police. How can one barge into the residence of female students and try to conducsearch?”
