Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, fixed the matter for hearing on Friday after Singh failed to appear in court on two previous occasions. Singh's counsel had earlier submitted that Singh failed to appear as he had an appointment with his doctors.
A case of cheating and impersonation had been registered by the Delhi Police special cell in June 2007 against Barun Kumar Verma, (41) a resident of Lajpat Nagar in New Delhi, on Singh's complaint. Verma had allegedly tried to cheat Amar Singh by impersonating as a senior law officer with the law ministry.
Verma had allegedly approached Amar Singh in March last year after reading about the Supreme Court case against former UP chief minister Mulayam Singh.
Verma had then assured Amar Singh that he had strong connections with the judiciary and could sort out all the cases concerning him and his party. In return, he had demanded a sum of one crore in advance from Singh, it is alleged.
