Mumbai Megastar Amitabh Bachchan today successfully underwent minor abdominal surgery at Seven Hills hospital in suburban Andheri, his son Abhishek Bachchan said.

The 69-year-old actor has a history of stomach ailments since his intestinal injury on the set of 1982 film 'Coolie' while shooting a fight scene with co-star Puneet Issar.

Following the surgery, Abhishek tweeted that all was well.

“Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting,” the junior Bachchan tweeted.

Earlier, the doctors also updated the media about the surgery, which has left the actor's millions of fans concerned about his health.

“He got admitted today morning and he is undergoing surgery right now and the surgery is going on well,” a doctor told reporters outside the hospital.

He said Bachchan had come to the hospital complaining of “pain in the abdomen”. Bachchan was examined and he underwent tests and it was found that surgical interventions will relieve him of his problems and the actor agreed.

He, however, refused to give details about the megastar's medical condition, just saying he was stable.

“He is very stable... I will not comment on his medical condition, it is his personal thing. All I can say is that he underwent an abdomen surgery,” the doctor said.

Bachchan has been updating his fans about his medical condition by regularly blogging details. His latest tweet was from the hospital this morning where he thanked his fans for their wishes and prayers.

The actor wrote yesterday that the latest problem too stemmed from the 'Coolie' accident. He had suffered a near fatal injury on July 26, 1982 while filming the scene with co-star Puneet Issar. Bachchan remained in the hospital for many months at that time.

He was again admitted to hospital in 2005 and underwent bowel surgery.

“Let me just say that the issue and the problem is a legacy of the past in particular the accident of 1982 and 'Coolie'. Subsequent disturbances have all and shall emanate from it. So I should learn to bear it now,” Bachchan wrote yesterday.
