Kolkata, May 5 The sixth Occasional Paper, the booklet published by Raj Bhavan for free distribution among a few of its staff members and select scholars, is going to be released soon.

This time, the booklet is on the birds that frequent the sprawling garden around Raj Bhavan. Tara Gandhi, wife of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, an accomplished ornithologist herself, contributed a lot for the preparation of the booklet.

It was the Governor who started the practice of publishing Occasional Papers, a research work on a particular subject.

The first five of these were based on Mahatma Gandhi, former governors of West Bengal AL Dias and Nurul Hasan, the Barrackpore Raj Bhavan and the trees and plants of Raj Bhavan. In preparing the booklet on Mahatma Gandhi, Governor Gandhi himself rendered a lot of help.

“One can get a lot of information in these Occasional Papers. They are not for sale. They are only for free distribution among a few Raj Bhavan employees, scholars and some libraries,” a Raj Bhavan official said.
