Hyderabad, November 4: A woman student from Andhra Pradesh was found murdered in the US by unidentified persons in the fifth case of a young post-graduate student from the state being killed under mysterious circumstances in that country in the last one year.

Arpana Jinaga (24), student of MS at Seattle, was killed in the early hours (IST) of Saturday, family sources said.

The incident came to light after three days and an investigation has begun, they said.

The cause and circumstances of the murder were not immediately known.

Jinaga completed her engineering from a city-based private engineering college in 2005.

She was working as a software engineer and simultaneously pursuing MS. She is among top-20 professionals of embedded systems in the world, the sources said.

Jinaga’s father, B C Jinaga, is a professor with the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University here and heads the School of Information Technology.

The murder of Jinaga came close on the heels of a string of murders of NRIs from Andhra Pradesh.

While A Srinivas, a PG medical student, Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, both PhD students, were killed last year, T Soumya Reddy and her cousin Vikram Reddy were killed in September, 2008.

Indian students Murders - No culprits found by Prasanna on 08 Nov 2008

It is such a pity that young people who go aboard to cherish their dreams and make a living are killed ruthlessly and nothing is done about it. Imagine the plight of the parents. I hope the new government will be able to do something about it. I feel the Indians abroad should put pressure and help catch the culprits. It is not an issue of religion, it is an issue of a LIFE. US Government should own up. Can we please start an e letter about this issue and forward it across to the youth. Lets us be the torch bearers. Forward this newsletter and force the government to wake up to This PIECE OF NEWS.

Murder of Indian student by Dr B Sundara on 05 Nov 2008

A very sad and distressing incident. The issue need to be taken up by the Indian government and the killer/s should be punished.More importantly, the motives behind such incidents need to be investigated.Safety and security for the Indian students need to be ascertained with the universities concerned. Also the issue has to be discussed with the governments of the countries concerned.During 2007, it is reported that about 62000 Indian students went Australia for continuing their education.I don't know what is the number of Indian students going to the USA every year. Most of them must be paying huge fees draining the Indian money.Surely there is vast scope to improve the standard of education in the country. Also the number of educational institutions offering higher education may be increased either by the Government or the private sector. There appears a craze among Indian students for ouside education. They may consider continuing their higher studies in India and go for job elsewhere.

NRI murders by Indian on 05 Nov 2008

I think AP Chief Secretary get into act with Indian High Commission in US to go into details of the serial murders of the AP students. I am sure that UPA have no time to look into this matter. If two foreign females can pursue their case seriuosly in Goa, what the hell Indian govt is doing about Indians abroad?I am sure that media is not interested as the victims were hindus, but not christians or muslims!

5th indian student killed n U.S by anand anchan on 05 Nov 2008

There is no doubt in my mind that these killings of Indian students in the U.S. by a certain group or gang of people are to discourage Indian students from coming to the U.S. It is time the Indian Government should take up the matter with the U.S Govt to probe on these murders.

It should be an eye opener incident for Indian Parents not to venture on sending young girs to USA without proper security arrangements. More avenues are available in India for prosecuting further studies and to glorify the Mother land

security for bright students by s.singh on 05 Nov 2008

As the West is getting desperate , some form of covert protection should be provided to very bright Indian students by the Indian security servces. This should be particularly so if they are exceptaionally talented in sience and technology and will return to India.

Wrong Educational Policy by Bhishma Sharma on 04 Nov 2008

According to the government policy there is no place for merrit in top educational institutions in India and the meritorious students go to USA for obtaining dream higher degrees. But some Americans can't tolerate the Indian merrits and kill Indian meritorious students before obtaining their dream degrees. All we can say the wrong educational policy of the government at home is responsible for such tragedies.

Let us not use the word indians now it pains us because people are more worried for their own state by Mrs Bhanumati on 04 Nov 2008

Let us not use the word indians now it pains us because people are more worried for their own state like Maharashtra.

reply to bhanumati by Jayesh Naik on 05 Nov 2008

Madam, again you are talking senseless here.In this article you are not worried about the loss of an Indian student in US but you are more worried about Bhihari

India students are unsecure in US by SHRIKANT on 05 Nov 2008

Only maharasgtrian are worried about their own state why outsiders will worry. I urge all the true indians to go live in places like bihar first and talk. Look at todays headline. Minister slaps airline manager. Want to go there. You should be thanking maharashrtians they didn't go south indian ways long ago.

Do not bring Maharashtra into this. by Mahesh on 04 Nov 2008

Mrs Bhanumati,It is my request to you, that please do not get Maharashtra into this. Please be little more constructive about the issues raised about the agitations, For e.g. why do not you talk about the Feudalism, Lawlessness existing in states like UP AND Bihar, which what is forcing lot of poor people out of their home state and be uprooted all their life.It is in states like maharashtra both the things have long been attacked and are brought in acceptable levels. For last 60 years , if these states rulers are not able to give minimum gurantee to livlihood for the poor people then shame on them.
