After reading the company’s advertisement in the newspaper, Deepak Dhunamat and his wife, both residents of Mukundnagar had visited the company’s office at Aurora Towers in Pune Camp where they were informed that an investment of Rs 1.5 lakh in a Tata Indica will yield them a monthly return of Rs 8000 in 60 months. They were also told that after the 60 month period, the car will be registered in their name and 20 per cent of the cost will be refunded.
Dhunamat invested Rs 6.5 lakh while three others invested another Rs 7.5 lakh in the plan.
While the investors received a nominal sum as promised for the first few months, the amounts subsequently dwindled and finally stopped altogether. After their visits to the office proved futile, the investors approached the Economic Offences Wing and offences under Indian Penal Code 420, 406 and 34 were registered against the company owners. EOW head DCP Sunil Phulari, ACP Netaji Shinde with personnel from the crime branch are investigating.
