Kolkata, May 4 Chief of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi on Sunday said that he has been asking voters to vote for Trinamool Congress if they don’t get a Congress candidate in their constituencies during the forthcoming panchayat polls.

“Alliances are being forged at the ground level. We have told our people to have alliances with only anti-CPM and secular forces. I have travelled to places like Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, North 24 Parganas districts and I have noticed alliances emerging there,” he said during a meet-the-press programme organised by Kolkata Press Club.

“The CPM is trying to break this but they will not be able to succeed in their designs. Anyway you will see a lot of permutations and combinations changing after the panchayat elections are over,” Dasmunsi, who is also the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, said.

He rejected Trinamool’s allegation that the Congress is hobnobbing with the CPM in north Bengal. “You come to Coochbehar and see whether there is any understanding between the Congress and the CPM. It’s all canard,” he said.

Criticising the state government’s decision to hold the panchayat elections in three phases, Dasmunsi said: “It reflects the inefficiency of the state government.” He alleged that the CPM workers are misusing police and the administration. “Often I get phone calls from officers who complain that they cannot work independently. I can’t reveal their names because that will lead to their transfers. I only advised them to work with courage,” he added.
