Antiques stolen from Tipu Shahi Mosque

Kolkata, April 8 Fourteen antique brass covers of tombs and minarets of the Tipu Shahi Mosque in Kolkata were stolen on Sunday night. Though the police arrested three persons in this connection, they have so far failed to recover the antique pieces.

The detective department of city police is probing the theft. The police said that on Sunday night miscreants entered the mosque and took away the brass covers, each weighing 5.5 kg.

The estimated worth of the antique pieces is at least few crores, the police added.

The heist was spotted in the morning and a complaint was lodged at Charu Market police station.

“We have initiated a probe,” said Jawed Shamim, Deputy Commissioner of Police, detective department. Tipu Shahi Mosque was built in 1832 by the youngest son of Tipu Sultan.
