London, July 17: Scientists have forecast an end to infertility with the potential for any person of any age from one to 100 to have children.

These extraordinary predictions were made by scientists in a special report published by the prestigious Science journal Nature.

Forecasting an end to infertility in the next 30 years, researchers said any person of any age could have children.

In place of a normal pregnancy, gestation might take place in an artificial womb, with embryos selected and genetically manipulated to ensure they were free of disease, The Independent newspaper of Britain reported on Thursday.

It would also lead to the availability of low-cost IVF at 50 pounds a cycle, putting it within reach of poor people in the developing world.

The journal said work on embryos for infertility treatment has now expanded to include the search for cures for the disease. It said cloned babies, though banned on ethical grounds in many countries, may become a reality.

Since the birth of Louise Brown, the world's first test-tube baby thirty years ago, some four million children have been born by IVF worldwide.
