"Chief Minister in her statement issued recently had termed Mahatma Gandhi as 'natakbaz', which is derogatory and we protest it," Congress General Secretary Rajiv Bakshi, who led the march, said.
"Remarks against Gandhiji was against the country's pride as he is the Father of the Nation. And this will not be tolerated by Congress," he said.
Bakshi said they had handed over a memorandum to the Governor demanding an apology from the CM or immediate dismissal of the state government.
"If our demands are not met by June 30, we will launch a state wide agitation," he warned.
Earlier, the march commenced from Tikaitrai Talab area and began to proceed towards Rajbhawan amid tight security. However, police soon arrested the protesters and later released them.
Mayawati in a statement issued recently had said that Congressmen were doing "natakbaji" to woo dalits by spending time at their houses. Gandhiji was also involved in such "natakbaji", she had said.

Mayawati is right to say this things, if anybody feeling respect about gandhi first go & study real historh.

Even Gandhiji's children do not respect him or rate him highly. Gandhiji were not a shrewd politician and that has costed nation a lot. Like partition, killing of score of innocent persons in 1947 and during 'Khilafat Movement' when Gandhiji supported the movement thinking that congress would get the support of muslims but in return lots of innocent persons were killed by the persons who initiated the movement. Gandhiji were lacking leadership qualities.India needed a shrewd and powerful leader like Subhash Chandra Bose or Sardar Patel..-Jaihind
Not only Mayawathi, a School of thought is being developed in our society against Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation. Their contention is that he only had created the ill feeling on Dalits by naming them as Harijan. But his divine idea of inculcating the feeling of serving them like Hari Narayan by the society is very badly being mis-propagated and creating an ill feeling for him in a section of people. What ever they can do He is Mahatma and will ever be Mahatma. His service to the down trodden is internationally being recognised and he is being worshipped internationally. He is MAHATMA GANDHI. So ignore such Mayas and other such fellows. Ignoring is also a big punishment.

For money and vote politicians may use any weapon.
Mayawati's ignorance and disrespect has to be condemned. But Congress is hypocritical since it misuses Gandhiji for political purposes. If Congress really honored Mahatma Gandhi, how come all the 50 stadiums, airports, universities and Yojna projects are named after either Rajiv Gandhi or Indira Gandhi or Jawaharlal Nehru. Not a single one is named after Mahatma Gandhi ji.
This nation can't afford any more stupid jerks like Maya to head a Govt. She must be made to beg in the streets (without the help of any elephant), only then she will understand what poverty is. The people of UP should understand Maya's mayajaal and she is neither for dalits or for anyone except for herself. Power seems to have corrupted her and she is worse than Jayalalitha. Even Paksitanis will not speak like this against Mahatma. By making such a statement, she has exposed beyond doubt her shamless, indecent and selfish character
No matter what the differences are amongst the political parties, the national symbols and the father of the nation shall be respected by everyone. Congress is diluting the gravity of Smt Mayavati's arrogance by saying "And this will not be tolerated by Congress". It is not Congress, but the Indian nation shall not tolerate that. In other countries for such remarks attributed to Smt. Mayavati, she would have been forced to resign and quit politics forever.
Enough is enough. The Govt. in Delhi and the Police must take strong measures against such irresponsible utterances by an uneducated woman, Mayawati. Such things must not be tolerated no matter who uttered these things. The media must condemn such behavoiur loud and clear, otherwise it may become a fashion in desperation.
This is what happens when we vote for such illiterate and iresponsible leaders. It is a shame on politician of sucha high profile to make such a derogatory statement on the Father of the Nation. Does she deserve to hold such a high position in society. An apology will not do. She must be asked to quit poltics and never to return. Let us clean our political system of such junk.
