Sources say that with the majority of posts being given to junior faculty, it is the senior scientists who are feeling the heat.
With the agenda of the board of management (BOM) meeting yet to be circulated for the sanctioned posts, the mystery deepens further. The meeting is scheduled to be held on January 7. As per the rules of the university, the agenda for any BOM meeting should to be circulated at least a week prior to the date of the meeting.
However, with the interviews for the Director Research, Dean College of Home Science and the Dean College of Agriculture conducted the last week, the agenda has not even reached the Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association.
Apart from these, the varsity will see six new heads of departments in the coming months.
PAU Registrar Dr R K Mahay said, “All the concerned parties will get agenda before the meeting.”
As the varsity is officially closed on Saturdays and Sundays, the authorities have only one day to circulate the agenda.
PAUTA president Dr M S Mahal admitted that, “We have still not received the agenda but hope to get it soon.”
When asked about the controversy over the appointments he said, “Till the time we see the final names, we can not comment on anything.”
Meanwhile, a senior member of the PAU faculty says, “Since the times of Dr R K Batra in 1980’s it was decided that by the PAUTA the senior members will be the heads of the department. Though people speak ill about the tenure of former V-C Dr K S Aulakh, he never overlooked seniority while making new appointments. The very fact that even the agenda has not been circulated around shows that something is fishy.” PAU V-C Dr Manjit Singh Kang, meanwhile, he has framed the list on seniority-cum-merit.
