Addressing mediapersons, Pam Asghar, a member of the aggrieved family, said that the house had been allotted to her father-in-law A.R. Asghar, who was a church priest, by the diocese and the family had been living here for the past over 60 years. She maintained that as they pursued different vocations in the US, they visited the house every year and undertook the necessary renovations. She further said that the incident occurred on March 9, when the family arrived in the city on its annual tour.
“It was only on reaching here that we came to know that the house and its adjoining property, including a church, in the premises belonging to the Trust had been sold despite the fact that it could not be put up for sale,” she said. Pam’s husband, Jimmy maintained that within minutes of their arrival at the house, the family was surrounded by gun-totting goons, who threw out their belongings claiming that the house belonged to them.
“They also called cops, who used derogatory language against us, threatening us with dire consequences if we did not vacate the house at once,” he said. “We fear threat to our lives from the accused and want justice,” said Raj Asghar, another member of the family. When contacted, SSP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said he was unaware of the matter, but said the incident would be duly probed.
