Army XI, BP score wins

New Delhi, February 22 Army XI and Bharat Petroleum won their respective matches in the fourth Oriental Bank Maharaja Ranjit Singh hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here today.

After the Armymen accounted for Indian Oil 5-4, Bharat Petroleum beat Air-India (North) 4-2 in their quarter final league engagements.

The Army win came on the shoulders of strikes by Anil Ekka (sixth minute), Sunil Ekka (33), C S Xalxo (52), Chittaranjan Singh (68) and A K Majhi (69). Indian Oil replies were from Deedar Singh (17, 50), Deepak Thakur (24) and Tyron Pereira (38). Bharat Petroleum’s Amar Aiyamma (8), Sabu Varkey (12), Pundalik Bellary (59) and Gurpreet Singh (70) were the scorers, with the Air -India strikes coming from veteran Dhanraj Pillay (41) and Birender Lakra (42).

Tomorrow, Punjab National Bank take on Namdhari XI before Punjab & Sind Bank meet Air-India (Mumbai).
