Vadodara, March 8 A twenty-year-old man, Jitesh Mandal, was killed after being allegedly hit by a military water tanker on Saturday. The incident took place near the Lakshya complex in Fatehgunj. Witnesses said that a truck, number 022143-A hit the victim from behind.

Sayajigunj police officers said the tanker was an EME vehicle. However, EME officials denied that any of their trucks was involved in the accident.

The victim reportedly belonged to Orisssa. Sources said he had come to Vadodara for enrollment in an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) nearly four months ago. However, Mandal could not gain admission in the ITI course and was undergoing AutoCad training at Techsolve designing institute in Fatehgunj.

Pankaj Chaudhary, one of the victim’s colleagues said that Mandal was staying with his cousin Tapan in Fatehgunj. He added that Tapan was in Delhi, when the accident took place. He said, “Mandal had come from a village in Orissa. After he failed to get admission in the ITI course, his cousin requested us to provide him some basic training in AutoCad.”

Niyaz Pathan, a shopkeeper lodged an FIR at the Sayajigunj Police Station. Pathan said, “After the incident occurred, I tried to chase the tanker, which was then heading towards Karelibaug. The tanker did not stop, but I managed to jot down its registration number and hand it over to the police.”

Sources said Jitesh was rushed to the Narhari Hospital in Fatehgunj, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Sayajigunj Police Inspector DL Jhala said, “Investigations are on in the case. The body of the victim has been sent for post mortem at the SSG Hospital.”
