The Ludhiana police carried out a series of raids in Kot Isse Khan, Moga and Bhatti armed with the names and addresses of those involved in the clash on the Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College campus that claimed a student’s life. The cops, however, did not meet with any success. Rajdeep Singh, a final year B.Tech student of Electrical Engineering, was stabbed to death in a clash between two groups on the college campus on Wednesday.
Of the seven people against whom an FIR has been registered, five are students of the
college. They have been identified as Vikram Singh Buffer, Mandeep Singh alias Dicky (both outsiders), Mandeep
Singh alias Laddi, Harjot Singh alias Jyoti, Ravinder Singh alias Batti, Navdeep Singh alias Lahiri and Gurpartap Singh (all students).
Said Sadar Police Station SHO Jungjit Singh, “We carried out raids last night but could not find any of the boys. Vikram Singh alias Buffer, who was nabbed yesterday, has narrated the entire episode. We are trying to follow the information provided by him.”
The family of Rajdeep Singh has, meanwhile, written to the police asking for the postponement of the post-mortem. The family is waiting for Rajdeep’s sister to arrive from the US. The postmortem will now be done tomorrow. Rajdeep was to join his sister in the US in six months after completing his degree.
Admitting that there was a lapse in its security, the college has set up a committee comprising the faculty and asked for its suggestions to improve the security situation in the college.
The committee will include Dr Sehajpal Singh, Prof Jaswinder Singh, Prof Akshay Girdhar and Prof S S Gill.
The members are to report to the principal in a week’s time.
The practical examination and viva of the students scheduled for May 15 and May 16 have been postponed for the time being. The new dates of for the exam will be announced later.
