Arsenal stay at top as Man U, Chelsea falter

London, February 11: Arsenal were left two points clear at the top of the English Premier League table as rivals Manchester United and Chelsea dropped vital points.

Arsenal can extend their advantage even further at the top when they face Blackburn Rovers on Monday.

Manchester City completed a first league victory at Old Trafford since 1974 and a season double over Manchester United with a 2-1 victory. Chelsea missed the chance to close in on United after being held to a goalless draw by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

It was an important result for Liverpool, who moved into fifth place on goal difference, and were left just three points behind city rivals Everton, with a game in hand, in the race for the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Real in seventh heaven after Valladolid demolition

Real Madrid bounced back from their Almeria defeat with a resounding 7-0 victory over Valladolid to surge eight points clear at the top of the Spanish first division.

Barcelona's 1-1 draw with Sevilla on Saturday gave Real a chance to stretch their five-point lead and they made light work of Valladolid thanks to four goals in 13 minutes.

Earlier, Atletico Madrid took a giant stride towards the Champions League with a 2-0 win over rivals Racing Santander moving them back into the top four.

Paloschi scores in Serie A debut as AC Milan beats Siena 1-0

Teenager Alberto Paloschi scored just 15 seconds after entering his first Serie A game to give AC Milan a 1-0 victory over Siena. The win puts Milan two points behind fourth-place Fiorentina in the battle for the last Champions League berth, with a game in hand.

Inter Milan leads the Serie A with 56 points, Roma has 48, Juventus 44 and Fiorentina 38.

Inter defeated Catania 2-0 in its first league match in the Sicilian city in 24 years. Catania's aggressive pressing held Inter's prolific attack in check for the first half and neutralised Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was replaced by midfielder Maniche in the 71st.

Juventus rallied for a 2-1 win over Udinese. Second-place Roma beat Reggina on Saturday and Fiorentina

drew 2-2 at Atalanta.
