Chandigarh, February 12 Artistes have once again started opposing the UT Administration’s move to modernise Tagore Theatre in Sector 18.

To lodge their protest, theatre artiste Rani Balbir Kaur and architect Aditya Prakash held a press conference today.

They even produced a letter from film director M S Sathyu, in which Sathyu has expressed his concern over the destruction of the theatre space by UT Administration.

The administration had decided to bring major changes in the theatre to provide modern facilities including better light and sound system, besides increased seating capacity.

The most significant part of the renovation was that more people could be accommodated here as the seating capacity would increase from present 570 to 885.

The administration has also proposed to remove the parking problem by creating a two-level parking lot to accommodate about 400 cars.

While the administration is all set to provide state-of-the-art facilities and excellent interior decoration, some people continue to oppose the renovation fearing destruction of the space.
