The order came from the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension. The state has been asked to comply with it immediately as he is due for retirement on November 30. Since it is a punitive action, Khot stands to lose 33 per cent of all monetary benefits, like pension and gratuity.
Khot and the Minister for Transport Surupsingh Naik were sentenced to a month’s simple imprisonment by the SC on May 10 for contempt of court. While Naik had surrendered on May 12, Khot was not traceable. He was declared an absconder and arrested on May 19. He had been under suspension since then. Naik and Khot (as the Minister of Forest and Principal Secretary, Forests, respectively, in 2004) were found to have violated SC orders that had asked the government to stop unlicenced saw mills in the vicinity of the Tansa wildlife sanctuary in Thane district. The duo had been found guilty of allowing six saw mills to operate despite the court’s order to the contrary.
