The 25-year-old right-arm bowler, who has been dogged by a series of controversies and a dope scandal, found himself in more trouble after he landed at the Delhi airport on Saturday via Mumbai.

Asif was stopped by the immigration officials for carrying ‘insufficient documents’ according to sources.

"Asif has a five-year visa issued to him which states he can travel to India as an international cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League.

"But since he has gone on a private visit and not to play cricket, he was supposed to inform the Indian High Commission in Islamabad for clearance which he did not do," the source said.

However, the immigration officials later permitted him to leave the airport following the intervention of the officials from the Pakistan High Commission and Delhi Daredevils, the team for which he played in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League.

"He is very much in Delhi and will be meeting officials for issues related to his payment," Delhi Daredevils chief executive officer Amrit Mathur said on Sunday.

Mathur said he had no idea about whether Asif had some problems at the airport.

"I cannot say anything about that. Asif spoke to me a little while ago and said that he wanted to meet officials regarding his payment," he said.

Mathur, however, did not specify where and when the meeting is scheduled to take place.

Asif was originally scheduled to come to Delhi on Friday but put off his plans without giving any specific reasons.

He had initially said that the flight has been cancelled but later said it was due to some other reason.

He left for Mumbai on Saturday from where he took a connecting flight to Delhi.

"My visit has nothing to do with the IPL drugs inquiry tribunal hearing which will be held on January 24. This is a visit to meet IPL officials," he had said before leaving for Mumbai.

Asif was bought by the Daredevils for USD 650,000 on a three-year contract, making him the second-most expensive Pakistan player in the IPL after Shahid Afridi.

His future with the franchise, however, hangs in uncertainty after he tested positive for a banned steroid during the first edition of the tournament last year.

Asif appealed against the finding but the hearing in his case is still pending before a three-man tribunal appointed by the IPL.

Ever since making his international debut the highly talented Asif has plunged from one controversy to the other which has undermined his career.

He was last year detained at the Dubai international airport for carrying a small quantity of opium while returning after playing in the IPL.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is already probing that case after ICC intervention.

PCB formed a committee which will be headed by director, human resources Wasim Bari with media director Asif Sohail and Sohail Salim as its members.

PCB chief operating officer Saleem Altaf had said the committee would soon start its probe.
