New Delhi, February 8 A 55-Year-old businessman from Assam was found murdered in his nephew’s flat in south Delhi’s Sheikh Sarai on Friday afternoon.

The body was found in a semi-nude condition, with hands and legs tied, the police said. They have not yet been able to find a motive.

The victim, Pranav Sekiya, and his wife arrived in Delhi on Tuesday to look after their ailing nephew, Anshuman Das. The police today said Sekiya’s wife left on Thursday night to be with their nephew in Max Hospital, Saket. Sekiya was alone in the house.

She returned around 1.30 pm on Friday and found the body, a police officer said. “There were no external injuries; only, blood was coming out of his nose,” the officer said. He said an empty bottle of alcohol, two empty glasses, and two plates laden with food were found in the room. The TV set, the officer said, was also running.

A case of murder has been registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station, and food samples have been sent for test to check whether they were poisoned. Police said there were no signs of ransacking, though Sekiya’s wife has reported a bag missing. For now, the police are progressing with the suspicion that Sekiya had had a few drinks with someone on Thursday night, followed probably by a row and, the officer added, “he must have been strangulated in a fit of rage”.

Das lives at C-39, Sheikh Sarai and runs a food products business, the police said. The body has been sent to AIIMS for postmortem.
