“There were, however, no signs of resistance at the scene of crime,” the source said.
Saikia’s body was found in semi-nude condition in his nephew Anshuman Das’s flat in Sheikh Sarai.
The body was discovered by Saikia’s wife around 1.30 pm — hisclothes were off, his hands and legs were tied, and blood was still coming out of his nose, the police had said.
There was also a deep injury near his left ear, which the police suspect was the reason for death. The post mortem was carried out on Saturday, though the report is still awaited.
The police are yet to come across anyone who had visited him at the flat yesterday, though an alcohol bottle, two empty glasses and plates of food were found in the room. Security guards and others in the locality are being questioned at present.
Saikia ran a food processing business in Assam, and had come to Delhi with his wife on Tuesday to look after their nephew, who is admitted in Max hospital, Saket.
Saikia, the police official said, came to Delhi regularly on business trips. “He was highly qualified, and had good contacts in both Assam and Delhi.”
On Saturday, the family took Saikia’s body to Assam.
