Mumbai, January 21 Showing their solidarity to the US based Indian fashion designer Anand Jon — who is currently in Los Angeles jail on charges of several sexual offences — designers like Shaina NC and Rohit Bal, model Vida Samadzai and several others raised candles in air at the Gateway on Monday.

The rally was called by Jon’s mother Sashi Abraham and sister Sanjana Jon, who are visiting the country to seek support from the Indian Government and the media. It was attended by nearly 50 models, designers, celebrities as well as lawyer Majeed Memon.

Jon has been accused of rape by 32 women in the fashion business apart from sexual assault and lewd acts on a child in the US. Tears in her eyes, Jon’s mother Abraham stated that all she wants was a fair trial.

“I know my son is innocent but at least give him a chance to prove his innocence,” she said.

“They have kept him in prison for over eight months now and don’t even want to grant him bail. This is not fair,” she said. Shaina NC added, “I’ve known Anand for long now and he’s just a simple boy with Indian values. This is not just racial discrimination, this is a gross violation of a person’s right. We should not sit and watch a fellow Indian being victimised.”

Supported by Memon, the family said that the eighth amendment of the US constitution guarantees a man the right to a fair and appropriate bail.

Sanjana and Abraham are in town to crusade for Jon and collect support here.
