Kolkata, June 17 An alipore fast track court has sentenced three persons to eight-year rigorous imprisonment for shooting at and injuring the owner of an outlet of the popular confectionery chain Haldiram Bhujiawala in 2004.

Chottu Singh, Amit Singh and Abhimanyu Singh have been sentenced under Sections 394 and 397 of the IPC as well as under the Arms Act, Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department), Jawed Shamim said on Tuesday.

The fast track court has read out the conviction on June 12, and sentenced the three the very next day. Shamim added that the accused are from Siwan in Bihar.

On January 1, 2004, outlet proprietor Shobha Agarwal was leaving the shop at P/64, CIT Road when the three youths tried to snatch her bag. According to the police, the bag contained Rs 60,000 in cash.

When Agarwal tried to resist, one of the youths pulled out a handgun and fired at her.

As the bullet grazed past Agarwal’s right cheek, the trio managed to escape. Following Agarwal’s FIR with the Manicktala police, a case of robbery was registered. The youths were arrested a few days later.
