The Kewal Chabra group got 10 vends. He is supporting Ponty and so the total share of this group is 73 per cent within the MC limits.
The Amrik Dhillon group, however, got business of about Rs 15 crore in the district this time as against Rs 40 crore last year. Dhillon attributes this to bad luck.
The total vends in Ludhiana were 909 as against 876 last year and the excise revenue in this district has also increased by 5.32 per cent this year, said A. Venuprasad, Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Punjab.
AMRITSAR: Liquor vends worth Rs 68.3 crore were auctioned in Amritsar. The auction took place peacefully. A.K. Bansal, Commissioner, Sales Tax, said Rs 15.8 crore were earned from the auction of 52 units in Amritsar rural area, while 70 units worth Rs 52.5 crore were auctioned in the area falling under the Municipal Corporation. He added that eight units still remained to be auctioned in the MC area, auction of which would be held on March 17.
