A non-governmental organisation, Resurgence India, had sought a copy of the Draft Master Plan from the office of the Chief Town Lane at Chandigarh yesterday but the officials refused to provide a copy saying that it is on display at the office of the District Town Planner, Ludhiana.
Resurgence India General Secretary Hitendra Jain, "Analysing a draft master plan is not a simple task. It cannot be done by just viewing its copy in the office of District Town Planner. It needs an in-depth analysis. For this, the draft of any master plan should be freely available."
He added, "In case, the public notice inviting objections to the draft plan is not mere a formality and the government is really interested in serious inputs from the public, it should be ensured that a copy of the plan is available on demand."
Meanwhile, the information revealed that the plan has suggested some mixed land use in few areas where the green units will be allowed to work in the residential areas while some guidelines have also been issued for the units to operate within. However, in the approved schemes there is no provision to allow the ongoing commercial activity, he said.
However, even the MC is making its suggestions ready, which have to be sent to the town-planning department, but even they are also yet to get the draft. Sources revealed that councillors want that industrial units in the city should not be shifted because of vote bank politics.
Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Ashok Bajaj said, "After studying the draft properly, our committee will send some suggestions to the Town Planning Department. This might take some time."
MC General House meeting on March 10
THE General House meeting of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation will be held on March 10.
More than 400 issues have been included in the agenda, with majority of them pertaining to various developmental projects in the city. Though monthly meeting has to be called as per the directions of the Local Bodies Department, the last House meeting was called in the first week of December.
After this meeting, the MC plans to call another meeting for the general budget of the corporation soon as councillors want to get maximum projects approved in the current financial year.
The projects including sewer laying, road carpetting, parks developments, purchase of tree guards and other projects will be presented before the house for formal approval as crores of rupees are likely to be spent on these projects.
Meanwhile, this time the finance and contract committee (F&CC) has not been formed, hence all the projects will have to be approved in the General House itself. Earlier, the F&CC committee used to meet once or twice a month to approve the projects. Majority of the councilors, irrespective of the party lines are demanding the formation of the committee to expedite the developmental works in the city. The councillors are in a real hurry to get their projects involved in the agenda so that they can be approved in the next fiscal.
