The appeal has been supported by the All India Organisation of Imams of Mosques (AIOIM), which had earlier asked Muslims to put black ribbons on their shoulders as a symbol of their solidarity and grief for the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks.
In a booklet detailing the concept of 'qurbani' or sacrifice on the occasion of Bakri-Eid, brought out by Deoband-based Dar-ul-Uloom, the seminary has advised Muslims to refrain from sacrificing cows to avoid hurting sentiments of the Hindus.
"They (Muslims) may slaughter other animals that are approved by the Shariah," the booklet said, asking Muslims to respect the sentiments of other Indians.
Established in 1866, Dar-ul-Uloom is the most respected school of Islamic teaching in the subcontinent.
AIOIM President Hazrat Moulana Jameel Ahmed Ilyasi said slaughtering cows hurts the sentiments of Hindus and ‘we should not do anything that will disturb communal harmony in the country.’
Ilyasi also asked Imams all around the country to pray for the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks during Eid prayers and express solidarity with Mumbaikars.
"They should pray to the Almighty during Eid prayers for restoring peace in the country," Ilyasi said.

Veu well done, Darul , now Hindus should reciprocate by not taking Orchestra processions near Mosques
Muslims should stop sacrificing cows for ever.. it is an excellent gesture on the part of Muslims. They can complete the religious obligation by sacrificing other permitted animals and totally avoid cows as it hurts the feelings of our Hindu brothers...after all religions teach people decency, understanding and human mercy....both Hindus and Muslims should avoid provocations... communal amity is much more important particularly at this critical juncture. There is a saying of Muhammad (saw) “God does not love those who do not show mercy to their fellow human beings.” Let us follow it.
A very good gesture. Such gestures can go a long way in fostering better relations between the communities on such sensitive religious matters.Members of Hindu community must also appreciate the gesture and reciprocate at an appropriate occassion.
It is a commendable decision of Dar-ul-Uloom to advise Muslims to avoid cow slaughter considering the sensitivity of Hindus. All sections of people should follow this example of showing consideration for the sentiments of religious and social groups. This sort of approach will certainly pave for peace and harmony and put Political and other groups who indulge in dividing communities out of business. May Almighty bestow His blessings on people of your kind.
Thank you Ravi,People like Kasim are just fake and ignorant and more of burden for a peaceful community.Islam clearly says that non Muslim should ever hurt any religious sentiments nor disrespect other faiths.I see this is a good step taken by the celrics by putting forward this suggestion.A pure non-veggie can also be a good Muslim. It is not neccessary for every Muslims to have meat to be Muslim.I think this will strenghten our unity once again which has been poised by some misunderstandings created by anti-national groups which tirelessly carry out operations and propogandas to divide Hindus and Muslims. We all are one and we will continue to be living in the same way we lived all these decades.I urge all my Muslims brothers to single out people like Kasim who tarnish our community's image and religious faith infront of the world.
t is when I read comments like these that I believe that Katherine Mayo was indeed Indian and she had lots of descendants. People who mistake magnanimity for fear, who see only the ugliness in life, who forsake the stars for the delight of counting the turds in the gutter, when will you ever grow up? On another note, it is a fact that beef is indeed the cheapest source of animal protein and a byproduct of the dairy industry. I am a beef-eating Hindu myself and find merit in the economic logic of Najdi's argument. Najdi, the DUL did not lay down the law, they only requested us to make a small gesture. We Indians do not turn down requests. Once, the RSS, impressed by the Muslim volunteers in earthquake relief, repaired an unused mosque in Khadia, a Muslim no-go area in Ahmedabad, and invited Muslims to perform namaaz there. It is another fact that none of our netas liked this warming up and managed to nip it in the bud. So you see, you have to keep on making gestures.
Hindus and Muslims of Indian origin are like two faces of a same coin. They care for each other. People of both faiths in almost all Indian villages live togather. It is the city where, unfortunately, may have some minor issues. It is my prayer that peace and harmony prevail in the cities as it is in the villages. Long live Hindu- Muslim borther hood.
Dar-Ul-Ulum are darpoks. I will stop eating cow meat if others will stop eating vegetables. I do not understand why one cow's life is better than the life value of hundreds of vegetables that a person takes in every day. Are the vegetarians not yet educated to knwo that vegetables have life too.
Read the scholars all over the world. Are you just Stupid person. After taking vegetables from the plants vegetable plant is not totally destroyed. In Religious sentiments do not apply too much mind ok. If you want to apply your scintific mind, apply for your own religion. you will find many mindless thing. And listen if you want to eat the animal who are respected in our religian leave this country. Go away u stupid man
dude, plants give you vegetables so that you will eat it and disperse its seeds to start the next generation. Moreover any vegetable that you bite will not die,it can still grow if you plant it.Even if you cut a plant the stem can still grow.
Take only as much from the nature as you require. We mostly eat meat for our taste-buds...vegetables are for our essential needs. It is impossible to survive without another form of life. But, if it is only for our enjoyment of taste-buds then is a sin.
What is a sin? Swami Vivekananda sais said theire is no sin. "If you call someone a sinner, you are as= sinner." Ganesh, you don't cut potatoes and carrots, you uproot them-dude- u kill them for your survival.
what a fantastic sentiment and as a Hindu I appreciate this from the Muslim brethren,
“If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That’s the single most important thing you could do. It’s staggering when you think about it. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty.”--Sir Paul McCartney
I FEEL MUSLIMS ARE GETTING REFORMED. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK WHETHER YOUR RELIGIOUS TEXTS DICTATES ANY NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD AND KILLING OF INNOCENT ANIMALS?. MAN IS BY BIRTH AND AS PER HIS BONES AND HEALTH CONDITIONS HERBIVORROUS AND VEGETARIAN FOOD IS HIS ACTUAL FOOD. DUE TO TASTE SOME PEOPLE HAVE COMMENCED NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD. THIS IS BAD. ESPECIALLY COWS' MILK IS BEING GIVEN TO CHILDREN AND ELDERS FROM BIRTH AND COW IS CONSIDERED AS MOTHER AS IT NOURISHES PEOPLE. WHY SHOULD THIS INNOCENT ANIMAL TO BE KILLED FOR THE SAKE OF TASTE. CAN IT NOT BE CONSIDERED AS CRIME TO HARM INNOCENT ANIMAL WHICH CAN NOT SPEAK AND EXPRESS SORROW. B S GANESH BANGALORE
of course our religion recommends many vegetables like zuchhini, olives, onions. If mans actual food is veg then for what reason has God given him all sets of teath including pointed ones meant only for tearing meat???any aone with common sense can understand this. And remember that just nourishing people doesnt make someone a mother
Please not we do not tie our mother in the shed as well.
Shaitan ( English.....?) may tie his own mother in the shed because of Shaitan's intrinsic character, but careful farmers tie their animals at times to ensure that they do not wander and disappear.
It is indeed a positive development. This is a hint to other Muslim scholars to speak up and share their mind and spread true Islam among Muslim community, including the issue of terrorism. This will ensure that Muslims sentiments are not hijacked by those muslims leaders who spread hatred. Hindu scholars also have responsibility to initiate dialog with sincere muslims scholars and find a common ground to solve national problems.
To be honest, I would prefer that there is no slaughter of people, not just on Eid, but on all other days as well.
First, I agree with Dar-ul-Uloom directive on not slaughtering cows on the occasion of Eid. Second, I wish that people of India (Hindu Muslim) would get together and issue a directive that says this, "It is ok to eat meat of all types. If you don't want you don't have to eat meat. Let us not bicker about eating food (meat is a food) and learn the sophistication of managing our animal resources for clean and good food."Happy Eid to all !
My India is beautiful because there are so many religious colors in it.It has become more beautiful with the people like Hazrat Moulana Jameel Ahmed Ilyasi living in it.
I am a Roman Catholic Christian and am touched by the gesture of the Imam. I don't think there is anything as human as getting into the skin of another and feeling as he does. Religion should follow God's commandment of love. Everything else will then fall in line.
This is excellent gesture, Darul-uloom is very respected school in muslims in India and abroad, Daul-uloom's saying become like Fatwa so I hope this saying will become permanent and Hindu will reciprocate in some way positively toward it. Thanks for reading my comments, Happy EID.
Our misguided minority is coming into mainstream due to tolerance and secularism of democratic Hindus. We have won this war on heart and mind to bring our brothers back to mainstream. Our muslim brothers have so much Islamic mercy by slaughtering cows only on remaining 364 days of the year. Please support full reservation for them in public and private jobs and prove to world how secular tolerant and democratic we are. Thank you great leaders like Lalu Prasad Mualayam Arjun Sonia Manmohan Abu Azmi Amar Amitabh Abhishek Aishwarya Jaya.
Imams of Mosques can definitely play a key role in integrating the country. Their concern about sentiments of the Hindus is a positive step. I love all animals why discriminate just cow? When people are ready to love animals and consider other alternates they can turn vegetarian. Only after I leave India I understand the freedom we all enjoy in India. The world's biggest democratic country has everything you need to jump start. We have a better infrastructure and a good democratic system to protect our rights unlike Pakistan or any other Middle East country. If we all could use it the right way nothing could stop us.
Time to show the world that we are one , We are Indians first, We are a secular country and understand each other. Time that we come together and stop the crooked politicians from splitting us in the name of religion
Its an indvidual taste and choice, and nobody has any right to interfere. I eat all kinds ofmeat, vegetables, drink and smoke, as an atheist. All citizens must learn to respectothers and their beliefs not accuse each other like fools. Instead irrespective ofbeliefs people should not support/help intolerable religious persons or groups at theirpremises instead should report to authorities. A small pctge has damaged Islam as alsoHindus, Christians, Jews in the name of religion since politicians fooled themto graband retain vested interests. So EAT
Very good gesture from our muslim bretheren, how are other communities going to reciprocate now
thumbs up Dar-Ul-Uloom. Hope we don't see any cow slaughter not only during Eid but whole year. I thougt cow slaughter is already banned in India. Is not it?
It is a very good news that Dal Ul Uloom has banned cow slaughter in India. It is good that if they can sprad this news all over India. I have read one place that Mohd.Nabi was a vegiterian. So better stop killing of animals and understand the sentiments of other religion.
What a message! dont slaughter cow's on IEid as a respect to the people who were slaughtered in Mumbai mayhem. Why dont they call upon on all their followers,we are all indians, attack on India is attack on all of us,pick up your arms and fight all those infidels who intend harming our motherland, our peace, our rights and our brotherhood in the land in which we live, we breath and bathe. The land which give us freedom to speak and right to worship any god or religion. Roar like a lion, the roar which should shook the whole world and jahadies, "WE ARE INDIAN FIRST AND MUSLIM SECCOND." JAI HIND.
