Muzaffarnagar Leading Islamic seminary Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband on Monday asked Muslims not to slaughter cows on occasion of Id-ul-Adha to respect sentiments of Hindus.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Maulana Abdul Khalique said guidelines in "ahkame idul zuah (concept of sacrifice), an instruction book brought out by the seminary, say that Muslims should avoid slaughtering cows wherever it is banned.

To respect the law and in view of feelings of Hindus, he said cow slaughter should be avoided as it does not have any added significance in the rituals.

"Other cattle can be used for scarifice so as not to breach the law," he said.

Id-ul-Adha will be celebrated on November 17.

Cow Slaughter by P.S.Panwar on 15 Nov 2010

It is a welcome call against cow slaughtering. But what about male calf and oxen is there any lawful position for other times ? As in present time with high mechanization their utility is much reduced up to Zero. Any Thought ?

Happy Eid by Ram on 15 Nov 2010

Happy Bakr-id. This is a great step towards friendly Hindu-Muslim relations. Let Islamic religious bodies act without political parties misleading them. There are some political parties that sustain their existence only if Hindus and Muslims are divided. Appreciate Darul-uloom deoband

How can killing of an animal be pious? by Human on 15 Nov 2010

Its a welcome step and Darul Uloom should go ahead and ban sacrificing any animal on a pious Islamic festival. Its a superstitious practice and inhumane. How can any god be appeased if one of his beautiful creations is killed?

Kudos to the Deoband. Happy Eid by Indian on 15 Nov 2010

Times are changing and such measures will go a long way for a grand national unity.

Step forward for amity by H.R. Sreepada Bhagi on 15 Nov 2010

The instruction of Darul Uloom is a right step in the direction of communal harmony in the country. Its actiou is highly appreciated and reciprocated. I wish the Muslims all the best on their holy festival and request them to take more & more initiatives to integrate in to the Indian society. Voluntary ban of cow slaughter by teh Indian Muslims go a long way in unity & integrity of the country. This is a step to live like Indians & not as someone belonging to a particular religion.

Happy Bakrid by anand on 15 Nov 2010
