The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has asked the airlines operating long flights to make announcements regarding this and also provide guidance to passengers on light exercises which include up and down movements of feet and stretching of legs while seated.

This was stated by Minister of State for Health Panabaka Lakshmi while replying to written question in Lok Sabha about steps taken by the government in view of the study conducted by the Leiden University Medical Centre of the Netherlands.

According to the study, regular air travellers were more likely to develop DVT.

The passengers are advised to avoid wearing tight clothes, socks, belts and keep hydration of body by consuming enough fluids.

Expectant mothers are recommended not to undertake travel in the last month of pregnancy or within seven days after the delivery, the Minister said.
