The Director, CSIO, Dr Pawan Kapoor had constituted a committee to look into the matter to fix the responsibility in the case, but nothing has moved as yet. A senior CSIO official revealed that the committee is aware of the findings of the UT Vigilance Department and are in process of recording statements from the persons concerned, but the conclusion is yet awaited.
The CSIO had obtained permission from the authorities concerned for felling 185 and pruning 15 trees in 2005; however, they went ahead with bringing down more than 400 eucalyptus trees that were not even marked by the UT Forest Department. While the pathway for which the trees were axed or pruned is yet to be constructed, the timber has already been sold in the open market for lakhs of rupees.
The 'unmarked' trees were axed from various portions behind the residential complex on the campus. The grassy-patches, from where the eucalyptus trees were axed, can be barely identified by visiting the spot.
