The percentage of successful candidates in BA General Part-II (2+1) course this year was recorded at 84.9 per cent compared to last year’s 89.03 per cent.
In case of BSc general students it was 87.91 per cent whereas last year the percentage was 95.22 per cent. In case of BCom students the percentage of successful candidates was slightly better at 91.25 per cent compared to last year’s pass percentage of 91.08 per cent.
This year, in the newly introduced (1+1+1) system, the pass percentage has been better than last year.
The pass percentage of BA general (1+1+1) system was recorded at 90.76 per cent. In case of BSc general (1+1+1) system the pass percentage was 95.7 per cent and in BCom general (1+1+1) system it was recorded at 93.64 per cent.
About one-third students wrote the examination in (2+1) system while the remaining two-thirds in the (1+1+1) system this year. The number of first division in all the three streams (BA, BSc, BCom) has come down compared to the last year.
According to CU authorities, better results of the general students in (1+1+1) system is because the system has streamlined the syllabus.
“It can also be seen that the number of students in general stream has decreased and more and more students are taking up honours courses,” said Debasish Biswas, Deputy Controller of Examination Calcutta University.
