Sydney/New Delhi, January 7: Raising the stakes, a furious BCCI filed an appeal with the ICC against the three-match ban slapped on off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and asked the Indian team to stay put in Sydney as part of pressure tactics to get its case heard.

Angry over the ban and calling it ‘unfair and unacceptable’, an emergency meeting of the Board decided to fight out the issue with the Australians and the umpires who had done India in the second Test which went in favour of the home team.

Arun Jaitley, a senior Board office-bearer and a well-known lawyer drafted the complaint against Match Referee Mike Procter's ban decision on the ground Harbhajan had racially abused Andrew Symonds and filed it with the international body within 24 hours of the decision as required under rules.

Parellelly it asked the Indian team to stay put in Sydney and not go to Canberra where a two-day practice match is scheduled from Thursday.

After the late night punishment handed out by Procter, a furious BCCI President Sharad Pawar called an emergency meeting at his residence in Delhi this morning where all options including pulling out of the series were said to have been considered.

At the meeting, it was decided to appeal against Procter's order and ask the ICC to suspend the order till the final disposal of the appeal.

THERE ARE STILL TWO TESTS LEFT TO PROVE OUR WORTH AND HONESTY OF BUCK NER

India cricket tour of Australia by Pranabesh De Choudhury on 07 Jan 2008

This is match fixing in another form. Investigation should be made how much money was paid by the CA to Bucknor, and Benson? Also the orchestered racism against India should be investigated in depth. Measures ought to be taken to prevevnt false accusations to win matches and demoralize the opponent. It has to be recognized that the white world is racist and precationary measusres to be taken by the white world at least hypocritically, at which they are good at, to assure that this does not happen out in the open in field!!

Cancel Tour by Jan on 07 Jan 2008

Its better to comeback instead of playing anymore test matches as this looks like a match fix between umpires and Australian Team. Looks like australians lost their mind after loosing 20-20 world cup

Discremation in Cricket by raji on 07 Jan 2008

Aussies talk about discremation, where was Ponting when he insulted Shard Powar in a picture taking session in India eventhough Powar forgave him of his inappropriate behavior.I also think Bucknor should retire b4 he creates more mess in the cricket world.Standing umpires decisions should be called off and technology should take place through the third umpire to make the final decisions.

Australian tour very much on? by Apurva Gaglani on 07 Jan 2008

Has the CA decided on behalf of the BCCI that the tour is very much on?Is the CA again taking India and its cricketers for granted?

Cricket tour of India to Australia. by Vilas Desai on 07 Jan 2008

If neither of the on field umpires heard anything as racial abuse by Harbhajansing and if the stump microphones also did not sound anything then on what basis Harbhajansing gets the punishment? It is a well known fact that the entire white world is raciast. No body has to prove that. England has already burnt their fingures in the matter of Shilpa shetty , the famous bollywood actress. So much so that right from her majesty the queen to the prime minister, tried to remove the impression. One thing is definite , the tour must be called off, if the ban is not lifted. About the 2nd test, well let the aussies prick their own conscious. We accept the verdict with a strong protest about the poor umpiring. We must demand that the 3rd umpire should be consulted if the aggrieved team player requests.

Discremation by raji on 07 Jan 2008

Assusies talk about discreamation, where was Ponting when he insulted sharad powar in a picture taking session in Mumbai.Sharad still forgave him of his aggresive attitude.I also think Bucknor should retire b4 he creates more mess in the cricket world. Technology can doa better job then these blind umpires standing and making wrong decision. It should be up to the third umpire to make future decisions.Ime has changed so should the old rules and regulations.

Suspension of Harbajan by Abdul gafoor on 07 Jan 2008

India in Australia Tour by George Varghese on 07 Jan 2008

I strongly support Indian Team Return to India by calling off the Australian Tour as we were victim to racial indiscrimination not only with Cricket but also in other fields. For instance the Expats working abroad is a target of being an Indian and lots of indiscrimination are in the air which is left unreported and only .5% of such incidents do get expose... So this is right time for the Indians to stand firm and convey a strong message to the entire world that we cannot be bogged down and as a nation we getting into the Elite Club of World most Powerful Nations... If a US Citizen is bogged down will its citizen and the Govt. keep quiet. I thank the BCCI for at least standing behind the Cricketers but unfortunate to learn neither the ruling party (Govt) or opposition parties has to come to their support. Here where the "United we Stand" differs. So wake-up and put up a strong case to the Govt. of Australia and convey the gravely hit emotions of Indians!!! If Board takes a firm stand by calling of the Tour, our Hats Off to BCCI

No Sport by K Ravi on 07 Jan 2008

The Tour should be abandoned unless teh Third Test is annulled and some where this kind of cricket should end.

India must cool down and then take stock by DILIP /FRANCE on 07 Jan 2008

India and Indians must ease off, from its frenzied emotional outburst. Must reflect and gets matters in perspective,it is only a game of cricket. India must avoid biting Australia's bait and dig themselves into a hole and stoop as low as the Australian's do.India does not ahve to prove to the World, who are bigger RACISTs?, that title goes to the White Aussies, the best way to shut them up is to ignore them. But I agree that India, must fught tooth and nail to have the ban on Harbajan lifted, which was slapped on, based on filmsy evidence, hearsay and inconclusive proofs.India also has good reasons to feel aggreived, due to poor and biased umpering.

CALL OFF TOUR! by ravi on 07 Jan 2008

If the harbhajan ban is not overturned, the TOUR SHOULD BE CALLED OFF!enough of the disgusting aussies!

Need Second match annuled or re-match and all the false charges withdrawn by Ds and jack on 07 Jan 2008

The second match should be annulled for umpiring fraud and all false charges against Bhajji withdrawn. We stay with wrong and that means we agree/comply to false charges. They are clever to put India in confusion, what battle will India fight1. Fraud umpires2. Bhajji decision3. Rematch/Annul of 2nd test or walk out.4. Usage of Afro Buknor/Symonds to play politics and slam Indians.5. Writing divisive caste articles about Indian players

Racism cuts both way India. Ignore it in your own backyard last year, then your cricketers (except Sachin) cry like the spoilt upper class pampered elitists they are when their poor efforts (coupled with some shocking umpiring) see you fall at the last hurdle. Grow up or go home - you have done nothing to further the interests of Indian cricket. Australia hasnt won 16 IN A ROW by cheating! We take the good with the bad - we make mistakes but we learn from them - and dont blame everyone else!!BTW All of you imperialists just take a look at the facts. England beat us a few years ago in one of the great series - we take it on the chin BUT we get on with it and hardly lose a test since. meanwhile the 'gentleman' of england havent beaten the Scotland 2nD XI since. Go figure??Doesnt that say something?Of course Singh will get off (ooh he didnt really do a somersault and take the micky out of Ponting did he..no that was just 'entertainment)Nothing will happen because after all BCCI(and its hordes of gamblers) fill the pockets of the ICC to ensure the sub-continent bias remains in world cricket.Really if you can stand the wonderful pitches, great grounds, fair supporters, clean air, beaches, easy going people, NEUTRAL umpires, open streets, FREE press and EGALITARIAN way of life , then keep your team at home and have fun beating yourselves.!!

Comment by R.Prabakaran on 07 Jan 2008

As mentioned by BCCI Indian honor is at stake and that is far greater than the game of cricket.Tour should be cancelled unless Harbajhan's suspension is revoked. Loss of money and relationship with Australia etc are secondary. Honor of our country is at stake. Trash the Autralians and cancel the tour. Hats off to Kumble for his sportsmanship. He did India proud.

CRICKET by Paddy Ramanathan on 07 Jan 2008

I believe Team India should call off the tour. India is the only country that can take a firm step because of our financial power at ICC. This will help the entire cricket in years to come. I think BCCI can handle $2.5million. Principles and values are priceless, so stick to your decision and leave Australia!

Indian team and BCCI should show some backbone and abandon the tour.

Sydney cricket test that concluded with a defeat of the Indian tea, by the Aussies has shown that the game has hit a new low in gamesman spirit and ICC management. Malcolm Speed is hastening the process of disintegration of the cricketing body by flagrant racist overtones. Under his supervision the rule is applied according to ones nationality it seems – show me the person and I will tell you the law. Great show my friend. Aussies are carrying the strategy of mind games too far. By winning the test in the manner that they have has not done them any credit. The Game is not about Statistics but the means used to win is as important as the result itself. Andrew Symonds is mature enough to realize that calling him a monkey was probably the most decent and harmless slur directed at him. Now with what he has done along with his other team mates is for Indians to conclude they are still the same Australians convicted and imprisoned in a distant land. So sorry to the rest of the Australians but this is how we feel.

The ‘Farce’ played out at the Sydney Cricket Ground by two Incompetent and Biased umpires. (PART by Shahabuddin Nadeem on 07 Jan 2008

The ‘Farce’ played out at the Sydney Cricket Ground by two Incompetent and Biased umpires. The second Test Match between India and Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground was turned literally in to a farce by a display of exceptionally poor, inept and incompetent umpiring by the two men in the middle – Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson as well as the third Umpire Bruce Oxenford. They were not only found to be making grave errors of judgment repeatedly and almost daily, but also, many of those errors seemed to have arisen out of their bias in favor of the Aussies. This is clear to all since eight out of eleven such glaring mistakes committed by the troika together had gone against India and that too at some very crucial stages of the five day game that was initially going India’s way but ended with a most ‘inglorious and controversial’ victory for Australia.

The ‘Farce’ played out at the Sydney Cricket Ground by two Incompetent and Biased umpires. (PART-2) by Shahabuddin Nadeem on 07 Jan 2008

Adding insult to injury, the Australian Team was very clearly and visibly seen plotting against Harbhajan Singh to ensnare him in to an indiscreet reaction through open provocation that resulted in a charge of racial abuse against him on the third day. This ploy and ruse was apparently taken recourse to by the Aussuies to put an unmanageable psychological pressure on the off –spinner who was expected to perform much better in the Aussies second innings along with Kumble on a crumbling fourth and fifth day pitch. The adjudication by the Match Referee Mike Procter in the ‘racial abuse’ allegation by Andrew Symonds against Harbhajan Singh banning him for three tests was certainly the last straw. Even he seemed to have based his decision on only verbal testimonies of five Australian Team members who testified against Harbhajan Singh without calling for any kind of hard ‘circumstantial ’ evidence like voice –records. He even disregarded the evidence of the two umpires on the ground, who had testified that they had ‘heard nothing’!

The ‘Farce’ played out at the Sydney Cricket Ground by two Incompetent and Biased umpires. (PART-3) by Shahabuddin Nadeem on 07 Jan 2008

This ‘biased’ response against Team India by the Match Referee certainly amounted to rubbing salt on the open and fresh ‘multiple wounds’ that were inflicted on our team members by the most brazen display of ‘gamesmanship’ and ‘one-upmanship’ on all five days of the Test by the entire Australian Team that appeared fully prepared to ‘avenge’ all their real and presumed grouses they had against Indian Spectators and which they had carried back with them at the end of their last visit to India during October –November 2007. Through this ‘ugly’ display of ‘aggressively competitive’ gamesmanship just for the sake of equaling the record of 16 successive Test Mach that was held by his predecessor Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, the present Australian team captain has certainly besmirched the names of many great Australian Captains before him like Don Bradman, Richie Benaud, Boby Simpson, Bill Lawry, Ian Chappell and Alan Border, who had all lead their individual teams quite aggressively without once having to stoop to the level of unfathomable depths like Ponting did during this Test Match. He simply ended up, not only tarnishing his reputation beyond redemption; he has brought the whole ‘ Gentle Man’s Game’ of cricket in to disrepute!

Second Test by Dr Ridheesh Ahya on 07 Jan 2008

The second test should be counted as null and void and either replayed or not taken into consideration at all.
