New Delhi An under-pressure BCCI today promised "corrective measures" after the Indian cricket team was humbled 0-4 by Australia in the Test series but refused to comment on the future of the struggling senior players, saying that remains in the hands of selectors.

India lost the fourth Test by 298 runs in Adelaide, completing an eighth consecutive Test loss on foreign soil and second successive series whitewash abroad.

Struggling to explain the debacle, senior BCCI functionary Rajiv Shukla conceded, "We haven't performed well, everyone accepted that... the Australians played very well and we all recognise that. We are equally concerned and certainly corrective measures will be taken."

Shukla, also the IPL chairman, pinned his hopes on the ODI tri-series, also featuring Sri Lanka, starting February 5. He hoped that the team would script a recovery in the shorter format.

"...we hope that we will do well in the ODI series, the BCCI President has also expressed this feeling. We are quite optimistic about the ODI series. Sometimes it happens, our top batsmen were not in form. We should accept this fact," said Shukla.

Asked why the promised 'corrective measures' did not come about when a similar humiliation happened in England last year, Shukla retorted, "...corrective measures were taken. That's why we could beat them 5-0 on our soil. We beat West Indies also but the problem is that everybody forgets about the series we win and remember the series we lose."

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the team's senior players – most notably the batting trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman – are under scrutiny following poor performances. But Shukla refused to say anything on their future.

"That is the selectors' domain. We can't comment on that. whatever they decide, we would accept that. It's the job of selectors to decide about captain. Whatever anybody has said in a press conference does not mean anything to us unless it is communicated officially," he said.

On whether the Board is unhappy with the way things are going under new coach Duncan Fletcher, Shukla said, "There is no such things. We are not disappointed."

Give Senior Players Chance by aslam khan on 28 Jan 2012

As we can see the Pak-Eng Ongoing test series results England is down by 0-2 as they are playing in subcontinental conditions and presently ranked no.1 and Pakistan is ranked no.5 , and i think pak can win the series by 3-0 so no need to panic guys it is because of the pressure that has been build up by us and same thing happens to our children when we expect them to get very good marks and when they fail we make these things bigger so guys calm down and give them a chance ,,,,i m waiting for home series so that these guys can prove everything.

Performance must take precedence over class by Duke Sekhon on 28 Jan 2012

The Indian cricket doesn't fall in the class we Indians like to believe. The team is there about at times but not quite there for sure. It's about time Dravid and Laxman bid farewell to the game at last. Sachin can hang around for another couple of test series to come. Shuwag and Gambhir should get back in good form before being considered again for playing in the next series. The youngsters waiting in the wings must be given their chance to replace the non-performers. In future, form and not class should determine which players must form the part of the team. Surely, a player should be commended for his performance but must never be eulogised as some kind of a deity. Players with swollen heads must be brought down to earth. Only those players who value technique and work hard at it patiently should be considered for test cricket. All efforts should go into developing a good team over a period of time for better performance rather than solely playing for immediate results.

Shukla jee by Ramesh on 28 Jan 2012

Rajiv shukla,CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT STANDS FOR L.B.W.? THESE FELLOWS are ruining indian cricket, simple by money power, political influence these idiots are there in BCCI.Like chameleon he changes his colour, sometime he becomes news editor some time politician and now where he is.

Retire Voluntarily by R.Kannan on 28 Jan 2012

A few years ago, Sachin led the seniors in opting out of T20 world cup which resulted in an unexpected Indian win.Apart from Kohli & Sachin, the batsman have averaged less than 25. Now, Sachin needs to influence the others to quit so that a new core can be formed around Kohli,Rohit Sharma, Pujara, Yuvraj, Raina, Mukund etc. Many international cricketeers have given up one form of Cricket & the selection policy must have separate teams with no player playing more than two formats.

Senior Player Blame Game by Siddharth on 28 Jan 2012

After yet another debacle thanks to the merciless and ever opportunist Aussies, the Indian Think tank needs to take the following steps and fast:- 1) Breed new Fast bowlers who can bowl fast and accurately... Sreesanth and Ishan or Zaheer for that matter are rarely fast & hardly accurate.. Take a leaf from the Australians, they are accurate and thus were able to take 20 wickets in each match.. 2) Forget about axing anyone untill you have a replacement.. Cant count on Raina,Sharma or Jadeja for that matter in seaming conditions 3) India needs to strictly follow a ROTATION POLICY.. it would reduce injuries, help breed in new talent and provide them exposure and allow players to have a breather on long tours.. 4) Seperate captains for One day & Tests is a great idea. 5) Provide the players with a better schedule so that they appear fresh on tours rather than over worked!! 5 Simple ways to make Indian Cricket better but hey.. im just another fan.. its the BCCI who has to do it!! ;)

Politicians - Quit Sports Boards by Pochiraju Sivaram on 28 Jan 2012

He doesn't know what he is talking about. politicians should be forced to quit sports boards including cricket.

Let's admit Aussies are better players than us?? by Cricket buff sasi on 28 Jan 2012

In the Adelaide pitch there was no venom in the pitch or swing in the atmosphere but our batsmen didn't apply themselves - and Kapil was dropped having played only one rash shot in an innings and look what Sehwag did in the 2nd innings - as it he was playing 20=20 - sehwag should never play test innings - if he is so impatient - moreover a captain should lead by example - so requiem to be written for Indian cricket will take little longer now

seniors by tina_trish on 28 Jan 2012

So called senior players should be made to play domestic cricket. As a cricketing nation, it should be compulsory to learn cricket at schools and provide excellent training grounds. Make exchange programs with Aussie schools. Make sports equally important as science education. Say a decent good bye to the current idols, and if we do these things right NOW, we still can win the next world cup.

Director by Ramesh Kewalramani on 28 Jan 2012

Suggest following actions :- 1) Remove old coach Fletcher, appoint young, 2) Should have bowling coach, Prasad was doing job. 3) Keep Sahwag for one day 20:20 4) Virat Kohli should bat No 3 follwed by Rohit Sharma follwed by Sachin and Dravid or Laxman. 5) Virat Kohli should be captain fr Test Matches keeping in mind the the stability.

Shocked by R.kannan on 28 Jan 2012

Even Kohli will be shocked by this idea of his becoming captain.

BCCI will take corrective measure by V.C. Sekar on 28 Jan 2012

You think the youngster will win the series in England and Oz. How many of the persons in BCCI and the selectors are young. Why all the old fellows in BCCI and Selection Committee should not retire and sit at home. One series Dravid failed and he should be axed, but not Tendulkar. comeon guys Dravid was the only one who stood in England and salvaged to some extent and you want to force him to retire. He will do it when it is required. Leave him alone. All of you are stupid.

Sachin Tendulkar must go by A MOHAN on 28 Jan 2012

For long term interest of Indian Cricket, Tendulkar must lead the exit rally. Forget personal milestones. Laxman, Dravid etc contributed more to team than Tendulkar. He must lead the exit of the aged players

BCCI promises corrective measures after another whitewash by Gopalakrishnan on 28 Jan 2012

We are prepared to give multiple chances to fail for the 4 senior players and still retainn them. player like Rohit Sharma in prime form of his life is asked to wail away his time in the dressing room. Every one spoke ill of Kohli but he proved himself because he was playing for the country and not for records. Youngsters like Kohli,Rahane,Rohit Sharma, Raina, Tiwary and others must also be given equal chances to proove themselves rather than just being given a single chance and the fate sealed. Even Shehwag does not deserve a place and Gambir has lost his way. Whatever be the outcome, we ought to have sent a new team full of youngsters; have failed to learn again and stuffed the team with the same seniors playing on past glory and one playing for the 100th Century. Let us arrange an 5 test series in India with Bnagladesh and give that chance to Sachin with all due respect to him. Our selection commitee as well as the so called senior players must resign together to gain some respect.
