New Delhi The BCCI top brass is in no mood to consider embattled IPL commissioner Lalit Modi's plea to defer the Governing Council meeting by five days and made it clear that it will go ahead as per schedule.

The BCCI has already told Modi that it would not change the date of the meeting as allegations of financial irregularities and the entire controversies related to IPL were far too serious to differ the meeting any further.

Modi had sought five days time on Friday to prepare himself for the Governing Council meeting which is expected to take a hard stand and even press for his removal.

"I need to prepare the documents to support my replies to all the questions... I have worked for you (BCCI) for five long years without taking any money... consider giving me just five days for the documents," Modi had said.

A top BCCI source said that there was no question of postponing the meeting and it was up to Modi to attend or not.

"Modi can come to the meeting and plead his case. If he doesn't have the relevant documents to defend himself, he can tell the Governing Council members at the meeting. We know he has been busy with IPL but that doesn't mean he cannot even attend the meeting," the source said.

"It is better for him to come to the meeting and explain his stand rather than keeping it. If he has nothing to hide why is he seeking five days time," the source said.

The "Anti-Modi" mood within the BCCI is quite clear with the entire top brass and most of the Governing Council member boycotting the award function in Mumbai last night. The BCCI officials are also planning to skip the IPL final tomorrow.

There have been unconfirmed reports that former BCCI president and NCP leader Sharad Pawar has asked the BCCI president Shashank Manohar to give Modi some time to defend himself by postponing the meeting by five days. But no BCCI official confirmed the development.

Modi's decision not to move court, questioning the validity of the April 26 meeting has also raised speculation that a compromise formula is being worked out. But with the mounting pressure of BCCI to take a hard stand and clean up the entire IPL mess would make it tough for Modi to find an escape route this time around.

Pawar is expected to meet the top brass of BCCI in Mumbai today to take stock of the situation in the wake of the raging controversy. The top BCCI officials will also apprise him of the steps that they are contemplating to restore their image.

Modi has already been sent feelers to step down voluntarily from the post of IPL commissioner and chairman to tide over the crisis but in case he refuses to do so, BCCI may be forced to pass a resolution and oust him. The BCCI source said that the president is empowered to remove him as per the board constitution and there would be no legal hassles in case such an option is exercised.

Modi's style of functioning has not gone down well with the BCCI officials and the Govering Council members. BCCI's media and finance committee chairman Rajiv Shukla, who is also a Governing Council member, had questioned his style of functioning and had even pointed it out to president Manohar.

In a letter in January, Shukla had expressed concerns about Modi's functioning and how things related to IPL were being finalised without taking the Governing Council into confidence.

"The reason I am saying this is that I being a member of the Governing Council, I am neither informed nor consulted about any deal and I have got to know such information through press releases.

"I am quite confident that such commercials are neither discussed with the Governing Council members because had this been the case the committee would have actually decided together," Shukla said.

BCCI is a "Bunch of Corrupt Crooks of India" by Ronald on 24 Apr 2010

As long as they benefitted from the efforts of Modi to bring in lots of money into BCCI they were ratifying everything that Modi was doing. Now that the going is getting tough due to Govt's Vendetta against IPL / Modi for exposure of Shashi Throor's misdeeds, the Bunch of Corrupt Crooks of India (BCCI)is bent on removing Modi in the hope of persuading Govt. to stop at that and not go after the bigger fish in BCCI who are the main architects of corruption in BCCI. At least Modi had built a world class League which is rated among the top leagues of the World and that too achieving this status within in three years from the start. What have these Bunch of Corrupt Crooks to show for all their years of existence?

BCCI,s Honesty by P. Arunachalam on 24 Apr 2010

Fine. Lalit Modi should be questioined for the misdeeds but how honest the BCCI Members and who will question them. In the past, some of the Cricketers expressed their dissatisfaction regarding BCCI Members attitude. Huge money is involved in BCCI too. Its right time to probe BCCI also otherwise it will be too late.

Lalit Lodi by Vijay on 24 Apr 2010

There is a justice system in India, which would ultimately prove him guilty or not guilty. How do people come to such a quick conclusion that he is a fraudster.May be he is,but the entire facts should be thoroughly probed before he is pronounced guilty.Someone above suggests that he be taken into custody; based on tv reports?Let us get our facts right. All the charges are unsubstantiated as of now. We all agree that the issue has to be probed from every angle and the culprits booked. Instant public reaction cannot be the sole reason for proving anything. Since the IPL is being probed from its inception, what is so urgent that they cannot wait for 5 more days unless they themselves have something to hide. Justice should not only be done but should appear to have done and that applies to everyone. As one channel says, the match fixing allegations and the raids on all the franchises are based on an unubstantiated report and that too when only one para mentions fixing this in a 11 page repor

BCCI rejects Modi's plea, says meeting as per schedule by rao on 24 Apr 2010

BCCI is absolutely right in refusing to give time to modi modi is not only to be removed from ipl but should be arrested and jailed for irregularities in accounts and making innumerous benami transactions.pawar and mallya supporting modi is indicator of nexus between them. Now pawar wants to win brownie points by saying that he will manage to get resignation from modi.pawar is cunning as he knows if thing flares between modi and shshank manohar then pawar will also get engulfed in heat .pawar is behind all this scam.as a matter of fact all NCP politicians are invoved in ipl scam .pawar and prafull patel should resign otherwise they will be forced to resign shortly.HAMMER MODI TO GET THE TRUTH OUT OF THESE CORRUPT MINISTERS.BCCI IS VERY MUCH RIGHT IN NOT GRANTING EVEN A MINUTE MORE THAN 26 TO MODI

mr by ramji ghedia on 24 Apr 2010

If mr Modi has nothing to hide, why worry? If BCCI wants details of all the franchise contracts/payments they must be on his PC or Files which should be available any time day or night. The same applies to all other Franchise's

IPL-Modi-Media by K. Radhakrishnan on 24 Apr 2010

It is amazing how quickly fortunes have changed for Modi. It is also amazing how quickly the Media is changing stance. Till the other day everybody was baying for Modi's blood, transparency, accountability, clean administration, Govt control etc. But now, the major media has started writing editorials and edit page articles to say that Govt should go slow. IPL is a great Modi baby that shouldn't be thrown out; there should be no vindictiveness etc. No one barring a few politicians have said that IPL should be wound up. Then why this great anxiety? If there is something illegal in Govt probes Modi and Co should go to court and seek stay. Otherwise let them face the music. Media cannot and should not decide when to start a probe and when to call it off. Otherwise a probe will have to be ordered to see why the media is changing colours!

IPL,Lalit Modi,BCCI by D.B.Chakraborty on 24 Apr 2010

Disgraceful.Modi is fortunate to remain in public till now for the reasons best known to all i.e.political compulsions. Had it not been so he would have taken to custody much earlier for fruitful interrogation as had been done in such serios cases. It is surprising to note that BCCI wasin dark so long. There is solid ground towards formation of JPC as demanded by opposition parties.Departmental enquiry may continue & take action as per law.Largescale grumbling exists for not taking stern action against Todi as yet.According to observation of general masses Modi ought to have been in custody.People are waiting to know the names of 'RAGHAV BOWALS' entangled in the scandal.Future course of action on the basis of recommendation of JPC (To be formed) may be done in respect of allowing such tournament. long

Just kick him out by Zakir on 24 Apr 2010

BCCI has done the right thing by not giving him any further extension.Just cant stand the sight of him on the television, the earlier he is kicked out the better. This man has lost the moral right to continue any further in office. The cricket loving indian public has been taken for a royal ride by modi and certain team owners who have taken undue advantage to benefit commercially.Team owners found guilty should be removed from the franchise and their teams should be put in for a fresh bidding.Severe action needs to be taken against the team owners who have been hand in glove with modi so that this is not repeated in future.

Modi's Plea by umesh on 24 Apr 2010

This show's how arrogant administrators of BCCI is. They know that Mr Modi is been working almost 20 hours day for this IPL for almost last 1 and half months. This mega and cash rich even will be over on 25th night. So how can expect one person to attend any meeting on 26th itself. If BCCI is genuine then they should give him some time to prepare his defence and answer the allaegation that has been made against Mr modi. But here BCCI doesn't want to hear him and have already decided the what they want to do, with out give chance to him for his defence. Even Our court of law gives time to prepare for his defence to any of accused in any damm case. But this BCCI is not ready listen at all and working in hitler style. So far to make money through Mr Modi, BCCI was ratifying all the decisions taken by Mr modi without any problem. But know when they are on brink getting exposed they running away from him.

Who is this Lalit Modi by George mathew on 24 Apr 2010
