Kolkata, June 9 The recurring campus violence in the proposed institute of National Importance, Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU), has led to the delay in the final semester examinations as well as campus recruitment.

The final year students of BESU are still appearing for their examination whereas all the government and private engineering colleges under West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) had completed their examinations by May 18. The students of BESU will have to wait for the placements unlike their counterparts in WBUT.

“I was admitted to the university in early July 2004, much before my friends got into any private engineering colleges. All the engineering institutions have completed their final semester examination and we are still taking the same,” said a student of final year who plans to take up his job in July this year.

The university authorities, too, agreed that recurring violence has delayed the entire academic process.

“We know the academic session has been delayed. This is because of the repeated instances of violence in the campus. We have intervened and tried to restore peace a number of times,” said Biman Bandopadhyay, registrar, BESU.

“ We will start the next academic session by the second week of July and will try to come up with the results on time,” he added.
