Kolkata, January 7 In a bid to break the ice and convince the students to appear for the ongoing semester examination, Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) Vice-Chancellor N R Bannerjea will address the students’ representatives on Tuesday.

The varsity authorities have been holding a series of meetings to find a solution to the deadlock in the recent past, but to no avail.

The academic council meeting today was no exception, as it once again failed to come to a decision regarding the fate of about 1,600 students who have boycotted semester examinations.

The students, who did not have the requisite 75 per cent attendance, had to fill in an undertaking that they have to maintain the required attendance in the next semester.

The students did not comply and boycotted the examination that began on January 2.

Dean of Students A K Ghosh said today, “The university at its academic council meeting has decided to go ahead with its earlier decision of maintaining 75 per cent attendance at the semesters.”
