State BJP President, Ashok Khajuria, said, " We have not discussed the issue of construction of the Amarnath temple in the state." He said that it was the government's delay in the implementation of the agreement with the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS) that would be an issue in the election. "The Government has failed to implement the agreement with the SASS and there are cases pending against those who were booked for participating in the agitation over transfer of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB)," he said.
While the BJP would be conc entrating on other matters like the discrimination against the Jammu region during the campaigning for Lok Sabha polls, it was non-committal on making the construction of the Amarnath temple an issue. The party believes that this could prove counter-productive since the possibility of it coming to power in the state was rather remote.
BJP Spokesman, Ramesh Arora, said, "During the Lok Sabha polls our main issue will be the discrimination which was faced by the people of Jammu due to the disparity in their representation in the Assembly. We will expose the government for failing on its promises including the holding of fresh delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir which has been frozen till 2026. Congress promised that it would bring in a delimitation bill, but when we brought it in the Assembly it was defeated by both NC and Congress."
Arora said the party would also rake up the government's failure to meet the demands of refugees who were dislocated in the earlier wars with Pakistan. "We are seeking ownership rights on the property which has been allotted to the refugees and disbanding the Custodian and Evacuees Property Department in the state," he said.
BJP leaders claim that there is popular resentment against the NC-Congress government's failure to keep its promise of providing one job to each member of a family which it had made in the last Assembly elections.
