Ahmedabad Influential BJP MP Dinu Solanki's nephew Shiva Solanki was arrested on Tuesday morning from the Rajkot airport for the murder of RTI activist and green crusader Amit Jethawa.

Solanki was taking an early morning flight to Mumbai when he was held by the cops.

The Ahmedabad police had kept Shiva Solanki under a tight watch ever since investigations indicated that the MP's nephew might have hired the contract killers who shot Jethawa dead opposite the Gujarat High Court on July 20.

Jethawa was disliked by many, sources said, as he was campaigning against illegal mining in the Gir Sanctuary areas. Several politicians are allegedly involved in mining here. Jethawa had filed a public interest litigation against illegal mining a few days before he was shot dead.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, Himansh Shukla confirmed Solanki's arrest and said: “Solanki was picked up at 8.30 am. He was on his way to Mumbai.”

Shukla said Solanki is the main accused in the murder case. “He had asked another accused Bahadursinh Dhirubhai Wadher to eliminate Amit Jethawa. Bahadur then planned the crime and executed it with the help of sharpshooters Shailesh Pandya and Pachan Shiva, who have been arrested.”

Police sources say Bahadurshinh during interrogation had first spilled the beans on Solanki. He had told police that six mines of Shiva Solanki were non-operational because of Jethawa's application against them. Jethawa had also objected to the mobile towers here erected by Solanki, police sources said.

Shiva Solanki is the Vice President of the Kodinar Nagar Palika in Saurashtra.

Gujarat is very much corrupted state... by kranti on 07 Sep 2010

Gujarat is not what modi and media talks about.Gujarat is very much corrupted and violent state under modi or BJP rule.

Mining by Anand Prakash on 07 Sep 2010

Illegally mining seems to be the BJP's core competence - first in Karnataka and now Gujarat. Quite a party with a difference

you are forgetting other parties by ashokpai on 07 Sep 2010

every single party is involved in illegal mining, from congress to regional parties, you have selective amnesia

MURDER OF RTI ACTIVIST BY SHIVA SOLANKI´S KILLER´S by varghese on 07 Sep 2010

It is a very transparent and glass clear murder with tangible evidences of the hire killers by Shiva Solanky, nephew of an BJP MP with privilege and impunity. Say an organized crime/murder under the concealment of BJP MP´s IMPUNITY. This crime is not an ordinary thing, because an RTI activist is murdered not an ordinary man. So such outlawed persons are most dangerous to the country. The playing ground is an illegal mining of Indian/public pro- perty. He and his hired killer´s are deserved a judicial sentence of hanging, a stringened punishment would be a lesson to such organized murders/crime/corruption with IMPUNITY.

Well the environment breeds this class of criminals by raj on 07 Sep 2010

With BJP government in Gujarat charged with various acts of serious Human Rights violations we expect more of its supporter to act in ruthless and execution style killings thinking they are gods and there no one to question them. That is tragedy for Gujarat. Few months ago I wrote in this forum it can be Muslim today, tomorrow it can be christian and next definitely it will be a Hindu - the bottom line is for money and power this politicians will do anything. There is no caste, creed, color, religion for this money and power based politics. Narendra Modi should take total responsibility for breeding such a worst environment and resign.

Reply by Onkar on 07 Sep 2010

Its because of Narendra Modi that such a fair investigation is taking place. Other parties ruling other state even can't talk of these.

It is about a single violent community by Maaru Guj on 08 Sep 2010

There is no doubt Gujarat has less violence. Gujarat has way beyond progress than other states. Gujarat is now a safer place. Better after the Ahmedabad riots. Law and order situation is better.

Well the environment by Rajat on 07 Sep 2010

There is no difference between BJP or Congress. The bottom line is its money that matter in this country if one has money & power the constitution cannot cause any harm. The law is only applicable to the poor who is put behind the bars for petty things. People involved in Sikh Riots are Scott free today.Gujrat Riots convicts are free. The CBI enquiries are dropped against Narendra modi to sign the Nuclear Liablity bill. This is the story of the truth of the Congress & BJP

Awesome!! Good News...

There is respect for law in gujrat by Jagdish on 07 Sep 2010

As you have all seen in a bjp majority state the law enforcement system is working with out government involvement this is because the home ministry is under modi so no one can try to subvert the process of law WE TRUST MODI TO FOLLOW AND ENFORCE THE LAW WITHOUT BIAS OR POLITICAL INTERFERENCE Just wish we had such leadership at the centre in all these years of congree rule the cases of bofors bopal sikh riots whould not have occurred because there would have been fear of arrest like in this case and the gujarat riots case were political instigators have been arrested and thrown into jails AND WHERE IN CONGRESS RULE WHICH BELIEVES IN HOLIER THAN THOU HAS NOT PUT SUJAN ANG TYTLAR. This can only happen isn modi land.A ATATE WERE THE RULE OF LAW PREVAILS AND NOT POLITICAL PATRONAGE

Because of fear from Central agenmcies and Courts by Insaaf ki awaaz on 07 Sep 2010

MODI has no way but to follow the law, gone are the days where RSS/BJP influenced police and judiciary to coverup their nefarious acts. This is just one case, how about the mass murders of 2002? Those who confessed of rapes and genocide on Tehelka are still at large. who eliminated Harin Pandey? The Gujarath Butcher must be hanged.

you are completely blind to other party's travesty by ashokpai on 07 Sep 2010

your kind generally care about your ilk only. what happened in the sikh riots was despicable - it was worse than gujurath. if you are so concerned about humanity then you'd cry out against anyone who's against humanity, anyone who foments riots, but no. you will only be bothered about your religion and your select parties.

Good!!! Probe must be fair and bare to all. Good work. by Onkar on 07 Sep 2010

BJP government must probe this act fairly enough even if allegedly some BJP's leaders are involved in the crime. BJP should not allow any criminal element in its fold otherwise its ideology will be diluted. Also other groups like Congress party, Communists, Media and Social activist who always oppose and try to defame BJP will get no ground to speak foul if BJP governments and Party itself will work swiftly in all crime cases allegedly related with BJP's own leaders. BJP should not be ashamed of the criminal behavior of few in its fold rather work hard to get those punished in a court of law. It should be kept in mind that these criminal elements have joined the politics with sole motive of getting away with any crime they do. Such elements are present in every political party. BJP should become the first party to weed out all such criminals criminals. Then only every admirer of BJP will feel proud.

These politicians should be lynched by W Aname on 07 Sep 2010

If these filthy politicians go scot free now it will be a slap in the face of all Indians. Ideally these politicians should be lynched for killing an activist and tax-payer. However due to rule of law they should atleast get death by hanging.
